Mega Millions Jackpot Winner Still Unknown
I've got no reason to think the info in the article is accurate, but if somebody called the lottery office to ask about a blind trust and that person really is the winner's lawyer, I think we may have our first clue that the winner isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, or at least they're not good at picking lawyers or financial advisors. The "questions about setting up a blind trust" might really just be questions about the rules for a prize being claimed by a trust, but why would they want it

Once again, U.S. tries to shut down Internet gambling
, It is an election year! And this quote from the above article appears to suggest the likelihood is unlikely; Similar legislation has been introduced over the years, but has been thwarted consistently by notorious gambling lobbyist Jack Abramoff . Lobbyist are powerful people not to be overlooked. My memory fails me, but there was some scandal unraveling in P (politics) city and one of the culprits involved in the rock throwing had some of his 'dirty laundry' exposed! Needless to say,

CPS10, I read in the Observer last week or so that we will have ball draws for pick 3 or 4. They said ping pong balls pulled from a drum. Did you read that article? It when the contract was chosen.

Illinois lottery winner gets 30-month prison sentence
It's a safe bet that felons win lottery prizes in proportion to how often felons buy lottery tickets, just as it is with how often hairdressers, bricklayers and people convicted of misdemeanors. As presumably noted by Larry, he committed his crimes before winning. The article doesn't say his crime was a felony and for all we know he simply sold half an ounce to his friend and had an unregistered handgun. You know, things that shouldn't be illegal in the first place.

Euro Millions Lottery Sparks Buying Frenzy With $224 Million Top Prize
Great article from PC World. More evidence the do-gooders have more influence then the average person is aware of. People who want to control your life because it makes them feel better themselves! Do-gooders always think the worse in a person, regardless of the situation. Whatever you do is be bad at least for them. The lottery can't be good, do-gooders don't like it. As long as they say the right thing, regardless of the results, they have superiority. If they don't get thei

Ohio couple hits lottery jackpot
Has to be after taxes. First thing I thought as I read this article was typo because who would play if the lump sum was less than 1/2 of the advertised jackpot? So I went to the Ohio site and they have a link to cash option calculation. If you put it 1.0 (for one million) this is what you get: Oops. somehow the figures aren't copying. Sorry. I'm trying to delete this. Anyway, it shows the way they get to $357,000.STATE TAX ANNUITY PAYMENTSCASH OPTIONANNUALPAYMENT: PRESENT DAYCASH VALUE: FED

Hoosier Lottery Does It Again
LOTTOMIKE:There is good reason why this hasn't happened yet. According to Indiana state law, a person who works for the lottery in any capacity is forbidden to divulge confidential lottery information. This is how they nailed Mr. Holcraft, an internal investigator who blew the whistle to law enforcement when he learned of William Foreman's friendship with Foltz and Daniels (of the scratch-off ticket scandal). However, it wasn't yet a scandal at this point, and would only become one after Losin

Kentucky lottery winner donates entire prize to college
Isn't it a great story though? The other important thing about this story, that is really unspoken in the article, is about taxes.Everyone always complains about why do you always show the taxes that are withheld by the lottery instead of the 39% that the winner will eventually have to pay? Well, this story is a great illustration of why we do that. This guy is paying zero taxes on his prize, because it's all going to a tax-deductable donation. That's why we only show the amount withheld -- beca
