Stop staying, 'Lower the odds'. It's the JACKPOT that matters!
It's not about what matters to me.
Powerball themselves have said that ticket sales explode once the jackpot gets way up high.
So it obviously matters to most people.
If it didn't, games with much better odds but much lower jackpots (like only a million or so) would be nationally famous, and not the 2 juggernauts that we have today with ridiculous odds and massive jackpots.

Powerball lottery to have larger jackpot, but harder to win
The drawings move to Florida is all about showbiz. Isn't there some kind of Hollywood Studios in Florida?
And the matrix change is all about driving sales. Profits are returned to the state that sold the tickets. MUSL is a non-profit association of State Lotteries. The idea is to generate larger jackpots. Adding population helps, as does changing the matrix. People used to get excited about a $100 million jackpot. Now it's closer to $200 million. Without those huge jackpots driving sales, th

Could there be a reason people that win jackpots have 1 play on a ticket?
Instead of say buying 5 random plays on the same ticket.
It seems that the winning ticket always has one set of numbers on it?
Could playing more than 1 set of numbers on a ticket reduce your chances of winning?
Or could it be a coincidence because people buy only 1 play?

Improvements to the jackpot history pages
I just finished installing significant improvements to the jackpot history page for each game, with expanded statistical information, native currencies (for non-US dollar jackpots), and US dollar equivalents.
The Jackpot History page for a game can be viewed by clicking on the game, and then selecting Jackpot History from the popup menu.
For example, here is the Mega Millions Jackpot History page: https://www.lotterypost.com/game/45/jackpot
Here are some examples of some non-US Dollar g

Low Jackpots and the Economy
Last time it made over 100 million was back in late August at 132M, not that long ago....
This year there has been five 100M+ Jackpots, with one just being under 200M at 196M and the other being 270M. Though, it hasn't made it over 42 million/four rolls in the last two months it's still not as if it's something major. Yeah, last year had two 300+ Million dollar jackpots, hell IMO last year was just one big anomaly due to that. Still it only made it over 100M six times, seven if you count a

Does the size of powerball affect mega?
This is what I found on the New York Lottery website.
The estimation of Mega Millions jackpots is based using projected sales. Sales are estimated by a Finance Committee consisting of Finance personnel from each Mega Millions state. The committee bases its estimate upon recent historic trends, weather, competing jackpots and the amount to which potential players are distracted by current events. Once sales are estimated, the jackpot is set using a formula regarding how much of each sale

International super lottery to create jackpots of $500 million or more
I am against any mergings of these multi state lotteries. If anything I wish some of these states would scale down and disconnect from these multi state lotteries. Powerball and Megamillions cut into the state jackpots. Here in CT, the lotto jackpot takes so long to get up to even 2 or 3 million because so many people are playing Powerball. And on top of that hardly ever is there a Powerball winner from CT. And it will be worse in January when Florida joins PB. It will reduce state jackpots in C

Illinois Lotto Jackpots 2008 (Starting June 21)
Still no jackpot since July 19th.
This game is drawn three times a week and the frequency of jackpots, and the increases in the jackpot, kind of creeps.
This is what happens to the state Pick 6 when you have MM or PB, heads up, Florida.
This is why my main play is the Pick 5, once in a while the jackpot hits a million, sure it can never come close to 5 + 1 jackpots, but hey, it sure gets hit more than 8 to 15 times a year.

Why I think quick picks suck
Gee, you get one ticket with a set of numbers you don't like and throw a hissy fit snit about quick picks?
Thus far in 2008 in the Illinois Pick 5 game (5/39) there have been 64 jackpots hit by 86 winners (includes shared jackpots). Of those 86 winners 54 were quick picks.
Track your game for a while and see what you find out.

Tough economy? Some cut back on lottery tickets, wagering
The economy works just the opposite on my lottery tickets buying.
I was never a fan of the scratch-off because odds of 1/1000K doesn't mean much if you aren't shopping at the retailers that have the roll of tickets with the big winners where with lotto games the odds are the same for every player regardless of where they shop.
I've alway budgeted my lottery spending by what I was giving up to buy a ticket. Use to be I gave up a gallon of gas to buy one lottery ticket and now I can buy fo
