Re: Remaining anonymous
It is a good idea to make an effort to remain anonymous in my opinion. The problem is some states make it next to impossible to do so by not allowing trusts, corporations, LLCs, etc. to claim prizes, only individuals. These methods don't guarantee 100% anomymity(which is in itself impossible), but they do make it harder to track someone down than just looking their name up in the newspaper.

Anonimity and/or Privacy
Among the people I wouldn't tell would definitely be anyone who is a known gambler.
Gamblers always want other people to bail them out - just so they can go play some more.
There have been books written about what to do if you won a kackpoet, and in fact the Missouri Lottery website has a page about what to do if you win a jackpot, and they themselves advise:
Changing your phone #
Getting a P O Box
and blowing town for awhile.
In one of the books I mentioned above, the auth

Why It Is Important to Remain Anonymous.
Okay. How about this question. What if in Iowa(where I live) you bought a ticket very far from your hometown(which I have) and you just happen to have a very common name(which I do)? Just saying, if your name was, for example, Mike Jones, as long as they didn't post your address couldn't you remain relatively anonymous? And what if you legally changed your name before claiming the jackpot? I have posted a question to the Powerball press officer yesterday, but haven't gotten a response. What do t

On any given board certain topics are going to come up over and over again.
Remaining anonymous if you win seems to be one such topic on this board, among several others.

Why It Is Important to Remain Anonymous.
Thankfully in my country together with most european countries it is possible to remain anonymous when winning first prizes in lotteries.
Not that I expect to win soon... (but it might happen!)

Why It Is Important to Remain Anonymous.
I was curious about why most states (all but 3) have to disclose names, and the main reason is, what if someone 'anonymous' won the lottery, and it was the CEO of the MUSL ? Or some other 'inside' employee ??
EVERYONE would scream 'inside job - inside job' !!!
And for that reason, it cannot be anonymous (however strangely except in 3 states).
If I won it, all of my phones would be disconnected, and I would get those disposable cell phones with pre-loaded minutes.
