Breakfast buddies file suit over lottery ticket
KY, we just don't have enough information from the article. When I referred to the defendant having to prove his innocence in court, what I meant was that the prosecution assumes it will be able to meet their burden of proof in the first place or the case would not have made it to trial. Therefore the defendant can either do nothing and let the jury decide if the burden of proof has been met or he can attempt to prove either his innocence or that the prosecution has not met their burden of pro

$113 million Powerball winner may be a regular player
The tickets belongs to a married couple, and their birthdays (or maybe their kids' birthdays) are the 15th and 16th of August and November. Maybe they're 45 and 51 years old or were born in those years. One thing that's sure is that if they picked powerball numbers based on winning numbers from megamilions, it's a reallly stupid system but they got really lucky. Kind of like the people that played the fortune cookie numbers a while back. The comment about maybe being a regular player is kind of

Wyoming voters to have no say on Powerball
From the article:Rep. Kermit Brown, R-Laramie, said the issue of establishing a lottery should be decided by lawmakers, not in a nonbinding vote by the electorate. It's a cop-out, he said. We were elected to make those decisions. ___________________________________________________________________________________There's the problem. Where is it written that we elect these idiots to make decisions for us?This is a dangerous yet common misconception among our lawmakers, and they need to be re-edu

Stolen lottery ticket trial underway in Chicago
Is she convicted already or accused? If the jury is convinced by the collaborating testimony of the witness for the State, she is found guilty. If the jury isn't convinced by the testimony and/or evidence presented by the prosecution she walks. According to the article the trial is under way and not over. Her defense attorney claims she lost the ticket. Is the jury going to beleive that single fact or not? This is the essence of the case. All because several people saw her win, but she could no

Lottery number strategies subject of newspaper investigation
The mathemetician should have said the lottery is very difficult to beat but not impossible. The only thing making it very difficult is the state's take at 50% or more. If there was no take, a good portion of predictors here at LP would prove that impossible claim to be incorrect.Even with the state's take, there are predictors still showing profit in various games in various states. Obviously they didn't take the time to look at the LP predictor stats.Todd, congrats on getting your name and s

Lottery number strategies subject of newspaper investigation
Gee, it was a decidely negative article? Big surprise, huh? When they start out withIn sum: The lottery cannot be beaten. There is no system that can improve your chances of winning the lottery, period, says Mike Orkin, a California mathematician who has written extensively about gambling odds. ...that's kind of telling. And let's not forget, bumblebees cannot fly. That's a fact. Science says so. It's impossible. Therefore, every time you see a bumblebee, remember.....they beat the odds.

Gift Taxes
I came across this thread because I was searching for tax info. I haven't won anything yet, but I was curious. I'll read the article, but I know the whole idea of gift tax is to keep a wealthy person from giving away his taxable estate when he gets sick or in trouble. I think it's ludicrous to pay federal and state tax on winnings and then have to pay tax if you want to give some away, but I don't run the IRS. However, Chewie is right when he says you can hire relatives to work for you. It's

What if someone interferes ??
I thought this post was a joke at first when I read it but by seeing the replies I guess rundown was really serious when he/she asked this question. 1st of all I went to the WI website to read this story that was mentioned but I guess WI felt that if you win the Powerball that besides leaving your town your story should also disappear. So of course like anyone who would want to find out things for themselves I went to the Powerball website were I found the story. For some reason I don't see anyt
