Why do you play the lottery?
I'm not sure I get your point. This wasn't about small jackpots (pick 3/4) vs. large jackpots (MM/PB). This was about why people play the large jackpot games. I wanted to see why others played the lottery and if their reasoning was like mines. So I guess if I were looking for a conclusion , I guess that would be it. That others DO play the lottery for the same reasons that I do. You hear of people who hardly ever play the lottery and they end up winning a huge jackpot and then say they want

At what level to you start to play MM or PB?
I finally answered my own question by just looking at the record MM jackpots list on the Mega Millions site... Back in 2006 Ohio had back to back Mega Millions jackpot winners and there was only one winner for each. First one on 2/28/2006 for $270,000,000 and then again on 4/18/2006 someone won again for $265,000,000. I'm sure there's smaller jackpots that have had it happen too. So I guess it isn't unheard of. EDIT: After looking at USAMega for a minute, make that three in a row be

$10M lottery winner squanders fortune
Money can change people, some good, some bad. The more you learn about unfortunated winners, the less chance we hit the jackpot because God teach us valuable lessons through this people. It's just like we have small chunk of jackpots in our pockets already. I learned that: 1) if you want to stay humble, play anytime when you get a chance, no matter how small jackpots are. 2) if you are big spenders wait until it get $50 Millions or above $100 Millions to play. When you've won, Even if yo

Now or Later
MM needs more states so it can better compete with PB. MM started 2008 with an advertised jackpot of $33 million, has paid jackpots of 33 and 270 million, and is now advertising a jackpot of 135 million. That has generated almost 750 million in sales. PB started 2008 with an advertised jackpot of 52 million, and paid jackpots of 95 and 275 million, and is now advertising a jackpot of 46 million. PB sales for the year are about 620 million. I think MM is competing reasonably well.

MM/PB Jackpot Sizes
Just something I'm curious about, with both Mega Millions and Powerball paying out huge Jackpots, what does it take for you to get excited? Enough to really get thinking about it a lot, and give you that extra thrill of checking the numbers. Maybe enough to splurge a bit more on tickets. The California Lottery has a system where you can sign up for email alerts when the Jackpots reach a certain level. They consider the Mega Millions Jackpot of $100 million to be big, and I think that's about

Powerball lottery jackpot hits $200 million
In general a wiser gambler pays close attention to the expectation value which is the ratio of potential reward to odds and risk. Powerball only approaches casino odds when it reaches $200 million. (Right now the Powerball expectation value, adjusting for the probability of multiple winners) is about 0.86. I usually buy a ticket when it's small, for the hell of it, but I play more when the jackpots are larger. On a few occassions both Powerball and Megamillion have exceeded expectation

The Stench of DISGUST in PA: a Cash 5 Travesty
Greg says 1- The doubling of the Pick 6 game price from $1. to $2. Are the Jackpots getting bigger or going up faster? If so then $2 is not such a big deal...prices go up and if you want the jackpot to be worth something then ticket prices should go up if jackpots go up. Otherwise by the time you win your Million it could be like winning ten cents today. As far as all the other crap PA is pulling, I agree it is bad.
