You are relying on annuity values - which in my estimation are worthless. I track cash values. I also account for the probability distribution of various winners. On November 11, 2005, the advertised annuity for MM was $315M, cash was around $180 and ticket sales were around 105M. The expectation value was around 1.09.

i have hashed this out with Cashonly and all i can say is your beating a dead horse. the only valid reason he had and it was posted in a news article is a 90+ yr old unknowingly won a annuity only prize paid out over 20 yrs. he tried to contest the lottery for a cash value claiming he would never live long enough to collect on the total payout. Powerball is annuity based (so is Mega Millions) but both have had a cash option for years.

I think if Powerball rolls Mega's annuity jackpot will still be larger, because this is the point where Mega Millions sales take off, whereas Powerball's don't until it's over $200 million.
