GA-KY-VA Lose for Life
LOTTOMIKE:I agree. I like Lotto South. I'd be happy with Lotto Georgia or Lotto South, because both have nice size jackpots (both start at $2 million).DoubleDown:You're absolutely right, DD, this new game certainly is gimmicky. And it has to be, because the state lotteries are trying to fool lottery players into playing this game. The cash option for this game, $520,000, is an absolute joke, and the state lotteries know it. The average cash value of a Lotto South jackpot is $4 to $5 million.

SoCal man sues to get share of $315 million lottery jackpot
I would have never started this pool unless there was some serious interest in players that were serious about participating. Before I started it, I would tell people about how I would go back and forth to Ohio (my in-laws live there), and buy Virginia Lottery (before LottoSouth), MegaMillions (then the Big Game), Powerball in WV, the Ohio SuperLotto, and a friend in Cali that bought their lottery. Because the jackpots got so high, my co-workers got jealous because they weren't driving anywhere

Probability of a Rollover in Powerball.
The powerball jackpot has rolled over and is now predicted to be $54.2M cash or $112M annuity. The jackpot reached a cash value of $49.9M, based on the www.lottoreport.com sales figures. My last sales estimate was $20.6M based on looking at jackpots from the previous run, and this was only off by 0.1M. (The jackpot figures are clearly understated in the advertising at this time and thus do not really predict sales.) By linear extrapolation from data from the previous large run, I am going to

Californians targeted by Spanish lottery scam
My point, pretty well clear I thought (but maybe not) was that in the old days with the magazine sweepstakes wars to get subscribers all that was offered were the 20 - 25 year installments which is identical to the annuity option on the lotteries. The magazine publishers bought an annuity just like the lotteries do today. And that's how you got your money and nobody complained. That was just the rules. You were happy to be gettng millions of dollars that you wouldn't otherwise be getting. I

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
Mostly just to keep my mathematical muscles working, I did some more difficult work on exponential curve fitting and, playing around with the model, I came up with a function that matches the behavior of lottery pot growth pretty well, at least in the region in which we now are. The mathematical details of this approach can be found on the internet, http://mathworld.wolfram.com/LeastSquaresFittingExponential.html. As you can see the model is fairly complex computationally, but I had some other

USA Mega debuts Powerball lottery annuity calculator
Whats all this record stuff mean anyway. Lotsa money is lotsa money. Thirty Million, fifty million, sixty million, who cares! Every one on the LP would be better off forgetting this record business and cheering for the 20-30 million dollar win. More jackpots, more winners, more winners, the better the chance of one of them being us. Fewer winners, means fewer of us have a chance at the jackpot. Decisions, decisions. Record jackpot, or any jackpot. Decisions, decisions.I want to win tonight, I do

Powerball lottery madness spreads to big media
When Jack Whittaker won there was $170 million dollars to give away and this time there's only $165 million. That's not a record to anyone with a wit of sense, regardless of what they do with the money before they start writing checks. So, you're saying that in dollars that exist on the day of the drawing the Powerball jackpot is actually $5M smaller than the largest in the past as measured on the same yardstick.Maybe you should start an ongoing thread keeping track of jackpot sizes using this ya

Powerball lottery madness spreads to big media
Excellent point. I could offer a billion dollars in exchange for a modest investment of $1000 and still put most of the $1000 in my own pocket.Anybody who wins Powerball could also buy an annuity that would eventually pay out far more than the advertised jackpot, but there's no such thing as a free lunch. Whatever you get has to be paid for with the cash that's available.I'll also point out that the billion dollar prize offered by Pepsi isn't the only large payout offered but never delivered.Lo

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
I am calculating powerball rollover probabilities. There is another thread in this forum in which I discuss powerball.https://www.lotterypost.com/threads119427p3.htmI recently discussed several models for a Jack Whitaker beating jackpot and I think the last one is probably a better one than the first, which noted linearity up to the present. If powerball rolls over again tonight, which is a better than even shot, it will be interesting to see if the rate of increase breaks from linearity. If so
