Record Powerball lottery winner's life a mess after big win
Quote: Originally posted by smd173 on December 16, 2004There should be a petition to claim jackpots annonymously. I know why the lottery says they make the names public. But since more and more lotteries are drawing their numbers annonymously (ie: via computer), why can't the players claim it that way without having to go through the trouble of making up a trust?States purposely don't have players claim prizes anonymously because it's one way that the public can have confidence in the game. Claiming anonymously or signing your name
Thanks for the replies. I know that you can claim anonymously via a trust, but my question was:If you plan to claim a prize via a trust, does this mean you can or can not sign the ticket with your own signature? If you sign your name, assuming it is a somewhat legible signature, won't the lottery folks then have your name as a matter of public record? Thomas's reply indicates that you can sign your name on the back, but then the contact info is filled out with your trust's information, and your

Privacy?
When someone wins, your name and image is all over the place. You can ask to be anonymous, but does this help? People/media are going to want to know who won. Is it really they're business? If I win, why should anyone know...unless I tell them. What is the need of the public to know who the winners are. is; A Virginia man or Maryland woman, enough? Is a privacy a concern to you?MP

If you won the lottery.
Good question. But, weren't you the one wanting to be totally anonymous when you won? As for your question...No, I don't think I would want to tell the whole world my story because I don't want the blood hounds after me for money nor do I want to exploit myself like that; However, it would be good to come back to a website like this one and share my winning experience with those who want to know.I am a writer and the only thing the winning would really do for me is help me find the best writing

Jackpot winner tries to lay low
This is the type of enormous jackpot that would have been best picked up under an anonymous trust, with no lottery publicity photo on the web site and front page of the Globe and Herald. I know the theory is that you feed the media machine 1 day of publicity and then you'll be left more or less alone, and maybe that works for the media, but I doubt it works for nut jobs and begging psychos who have $294 million on the brain. The theory might also be that people will find out dventually even i
