will you play a lottery with computerized drawings?
I've never played a lottery game with computerized drawings because Ohio has never had one and I've only played BigGame and PowerBall out of state. Ohio will have a computerized drawing for Ten-OH a Keno style game starting next month and I probably won't play it because I'm not a fan of Keno style games, I didn't like Lot'O Play either. I prefer live drawings with balls but I'm sure most players don't care either way because scratch-offs are even worse than computerized drawings and mos

Jack: Those are all very interesting and perfectly valid thoughts. You raise some thoughtful questions, and I would love to hear what others have to say on this topic. In a perfect world, people from the state lotteries would make themselves heard on this issue, if only to comfort those who feel they are too distant and mysterious. lottolaughs: Are you suggesting that the lotteries somehow pre-determine which numbers are going to be drawn? I suppose if you want to think in terms of what is

I guess we have a different definition of the word fact . You're saying it's a fact that computers are as random as a ball machine? That's the argument that says if it quacks like a duck, then it is a duck. However, I don't think the common (read: non-scientific) citizen cares that a scientific formula was used to prove that a computer can simulate the randomness of a ball machine. They care much more about real drawings.Being in the position that I am (not merely a programmer, although t

MathWizard, It is not a matter of being pro or against computers. I don't think there's anyone who could call me anti-computer, since computers are the only way I have ever made a living, and they are the one thing I enjoy doing in life the most (apart from family stuff of course). It is a matter of recognizing that despite computers being great things, it does not stand to reason that they are the best way to do everything. Lottery drawings are just one area where computers insert a meas

Quote: Originally posted by ryanm on April 26, 2005 Ball drawings can be manipulated too, not just computerized drawings. Why does everyone automatically assume lottery officials who institute computer drawings are corrupt? They're just trying to save money so more goes toward the programs the lotteries are supposed to support. I'm not saying they are corrupt, but wouldn't it be so much easier to do so with a system that flashes a number on the screen instead of all the different thi

My Lastest reply from the Hoosier lottery
Subj: Re: Prize PayoutsDate: 3/21/05 4:53:56 PM Central Standard TimeFrom: PlayerSupport@HoosierLottery.com I am in receipt of your recent e-mail to the Hoosier Lottery. The Lottery made the important decision to use computerized draws forseveral reasons. As you know, the odds of 4 distinct numbers beingdrawn in any order are approximately 1:416.67. Depending on the year(leap year, etc.), there are approximately 679 drawings for Daily 4throughout the year. Therefore, one could argue that the
