Lawyer thinks Calif. participation in Mega Millions is illegal
According to one legislative lawyer, California's much-heralded entrance into the 11-state Mega Millions lottery may be illegal, even as outlets around the state prepare for the debut of the popular game.Lottery Director Chon Gutierrez was told by legal advisers when California joined Mega Millions that the move to revitalize the state's languishing lottery was legal because it advanced the education-benefiting cause of the voter-approved Lottery Act of 1984.Around the state, locations for buyin

Mega Millions or Powerball?
Florida could fit in either game. The more cosmopolitan Mega Millions would fit in South Florida, with South Beach and all that. And the more blue collar Powerball would fit up in North Florida, with it's more rural landscape. But what are we thinking. Florida won't have a choice. It's Powerball or start their own multi-state game.

Ideal Starting Jackpot.
for an in-state game, $4-5 million seems right. for a multi-state game, somewhere around $15-20 million is a good starting jackpot.

new york leaving mega millions
Quote: Originally posted by LOTTOMIKE on April 30, 2005 well if they did somehow leave then i wonder if powerball would end up in its spot, something to think about.....In this unlikely scenario, I would suspect NY without a multi-state game for around a year. But would join Powerball reletively soon after realizing the drop in sales (which is inevitable when you drop a game of that magnitude without any replacement).

Florida Lottery Petition-Please Sign
i e-mailed the FL lottery a while ago, and they said it would happen within 3 years, but they are worried on the impact it would have on their in-state lotto. FL needs to understand that the players want to play a multi-sate game, and that the big jackpots that a multi-state game brings in will generate more sales than those that will be lost when theFL Lotto jackpot, which gets hit just about every drawing, so the jackpot does not get too high, has to decrease.

Florida Lottery Petition-Please Sign
I have started a petition for the Florida Lottery to join a multi-state lottery alliance so that Floridians like myself can play either Powerball or Mega Millions. The Florida Lottery is the only lottery that does not participate in a multi-state game and it would increase lottery revenue for the state of Florida, so I ask that all Floridians to please take some time to sign this petition and lets bring a multi-state game to the state of Florida.Florida Lottery Petition

Streak of jackpot winners is bad luck for Powerball lottery sales
tg636: The states make much less money when the jackpots stay small. Sure, they make money, but less than what big multi-state games are supposed to make. In that case, as RJOh said, it's time to change things up.If you're looking for a lotto game that has frequent winners, that's what your state's Pick 6 game is for. The big multi-state games are there to have big rollovers and big jackpots.

FL & CA
CA could announce joining a multi-state game any time now. And while FL will have to wait for Jebby to plunk his lottery-hating kiester out of the governorship, a multi-state game is also inevitable (even if it is the very last to do so). So, how do you think the Sunshine State and the Golden State will align?
