Mega Millions sets a new record

Thus the results are consistent with the probabilities. How does $11,000,000/135,145,920 possible combinations, 92% and 1:23 relate to results that are consistent with the probabilties?RJOhAs always, I rely on my poisson spreadsheet to calculate

Winning!
Basically there are 3 methods for playing lottery gamesLuck,Strategy and Divine Intervention Luck involves quick-picks and other random ways of selecting numbers.Strategy involves using software or systems to select your numbers intelligently.Divine Intervention involves prayer or some other religious based ritual all 3 methods work because players have won jackpots using them they just don't work for everyone and not consistantly in most cases. There are some players out there however that are d

Bigger Small Prizes or Bigger Jackpots?
Recently in my State of NSW, Australia they changed from a 6/44 with 2 Bonus Numbers to a 6/45 with 2 Bonus Numbers. Apparently, there was some pressure from the larger Jackpot prizes of competing Lotto games. In the process they increased the ticket price slightly but rather than meeting the Jackpot prizes of other Lotto games head on they adopted a different approach which I think is an improvement. The prizes are for 3 and a Bonus Number, 4, 5, 5 and a Bonus Number and the 6. Number Systems and statistics.
I don't believe it's the individual member states that control the number of winners in their state. All member states are part of a single lottery network. The central computer makes all of the decisions regarding winners and where they are sold. The software is programmed to make the necessary calculations, etc., and then sends out the quick picks accordingly. I believe the system can be programmed to send out a specified number of winners and any location in the network. Second tier pr

Probability of a rollover in PB and MM
Quote: Originally posted by weshar75 on February 19, 2004 Is their a chance of the big 400+ million dollar jackpot because of how fast mega millions has climbed in the rollovers so far? I think their is a chance. It's something of a guess, since it depends on sales and with the addition of Texas, we're in uncharted territory, but I can take a stab at it.Let us say that the rollover probability doesn't change much because of sales greater than those speculated and remains 56%. Let us also gu

Probability of a rollover in PB and MM
These probabilities are estimates made from the predicted forecast sales. I estimate sales by multiplying the number of winners times the overall odds of winning and have been tracking them for some time. Over time you would expect the variances to average out. There is evidence that they do: The average values from these calculations agree very well with the lotteries reported prize ratio figures, as given on lottoreport.com, so I have confidence in my assumptions. (This is in spite of a

Massachusetts man wins $1M lottery prize
Robert F. Brown Jr. doesn't know it yet, but he's got a free Boar's Head sandwich coming. It may not sound like much, but it's all Marissa and Glen Varney can do to say thanks to Brown for buying a winning $1 million lottery ticket in their Wrentham delicatessen, the Sheldonville Store. The Varneys, former chefs who live in Franklin, Mass., will get a $10,000 commission for selling Brown the winning ticket, said Amy Morris, a spokeswoman for the Massachusetts Lottery. When you tell people you own

Lottery programs
Quote: Originally posted by bobby623 on January 05, 2004 If the same person showed up at the lottery office to claim a jackpot more than once, lottery security would be out in force. I don't think anyone has won more than once in any given lotto. I read where a man won two jackpots using the same numbers in two different state lotteries. But, when you come right down to it, there will never be a number generator that will win consistently. In Texas, the lottery uses 3 different machines, 4 ball

All he wants for Christmas is $63 million - plus interest.A Brooklyn man has filed suit against New York Lottery, claiming he won last year's Mega Millions drawing on Christmas Eve.Dr. Fritzner Bechette claims he lost the ticket in a non-retrievable situation and has tried to claim the prize since last Dec. 25.Lottery officials say the ticket is worth $68 million. It wasn't immediately clear why Bechette is suing for $5 million less. The suit was filed in Queens Supreme Court last week. The dea
