Why do people play QP's?
It looks like one thinks that QP s are lucky. The flip side to that bent coin; http://www.newscientist.com/blog/shortsharpscience/2007/01/is-poker-skill-or-luck-court-will.html Steady losers tend to argue for luck. Those who make their living at poker argue for skill. Having spent a couple years among the latter, I've always encouraged the donators to curse their luck and try again. But recent legislation causes me to consider sending copies of Mason Malmuth's Theory of Poker t

Will your Big win boost your self esteem!!
This is a good post...I thought about it for a couple of days and read some items about jackpot winners. My thoughts lean towards whether or not you can claim anonymously as having alot to do with the self esteem. In either case, the first thing would be to set your priorities on the winnings. My Big 5 priorities would be 1.) to pay tax obligations on the winnings (make sure you keep/have enough to take care of this so you are not surprised at tax time) 2.) Debt. For the mortgage, I

Why you should try to remain anonymous if you ever win a jackpot!
I have to respectfully disagree. If you have a lot of money, but you worked hard for it, people will respect that and will not coming begging for money too often. Of course, you will still have your gold-diggers and your occasional wacko, but it will be pretty limited. If you win the lottery and you are not anonymous, you will have waves of people begging for money. First, you have all your friends and family, expecting there share. Then, you have people who aren't really your f

Nominations for best 2006 LP post
This one, I want to nominate this one for humor / irony / witticism: justxploring: __________________________________________________ Anonymity has always been a popular topic on this board. I've lived in several states including MA, NH and now FL and I don't think there's anyway to keep your name out of the public records, even with a Trust. Maybe I'm not recalling the NH laws correctly, since I never won enough to worry about them. But I thought that no matter how your money is cl

A BLIND TRUST to claim anonymously?
This is a great topic and I'm suprised it didn't get more posts. I've been studying Lotteries for about a year now and here's what I've been able to gather about Blind Trusts: First there is not a lot of information on the web available about Blind Trusts. Many sites will mention the different types of trusts but say nothng about how to set up a Blind Trust. From what I can gather Blind Trusts were conceived and set up so that the beneficiary of the trust has absolutely no idea where the

Inside the biggest lottery scam ever
Former MUSL employee denies rigging Hot Lotto drawing It was two days before Christmas in 2010 and Eddie Tipton had a $16.5 million lottery winner in his pocket. Sporting a hooded jacket, the stocky 47-year-old approached a silver-haired clerk at the counter of an Iowa-based Quik Trip market at around 3:30 p.m., stacking on the counter $3.17 worth of hot dogs, a fountain soda and two tickets. But Tipton didn't need Lady Luck. The Quik Trip purchase was phase two of a crafty plan to take

The Florida Millionaire Raffle is back!
Should I ever be so lucky,,,, I want to remain anonymous for a longer period of time than what Florida's statutes temporarily allow for. I can't think of any reason why I couldn't. Obviously this is a question for an estate attorney. Doubt I'd hit the claim office prior to talking to a lawyer. Counting chickens before they even hatch! G5

15 New Jersey "Night of Millionaires" Powerball winners claim prizes of $1 million and more
The 15 anonymous winners who have come forward so far have disclosed a variety of ways they plan on using the winnings, from buying a home to paying off debts to covering medical expenses. Does a winner have to tell the Jersey lottery their particular story or plans for the using the money when claiming a big prize? If I was ever so lucky, they wouldn't get much out of me should they be brazen enough to ask me my story. It'd be nothing but one word answers from me. Hell, I might even t
