That's my thought too. I've seen several winners here who got no press when they won a few hundred thousand, but when they win again even if it's just 50K it suddenly becomes news. Since I live in a non-anonymous state, that would concern me.

From a conversation I once had with a New Jersey Lottery official, winners aren't obligated to share their story or plans. Instead, the impression I got is that some winners will freely volunteer info about their experience like a hey, why not? sort of thing since they figure they can remain anonymous under state law anyway. The Lottery sure doesn't mind!

I get that lotteries want to assure the public that real people are actually winning but I see no reason why they can't set up an independent commission to verify all winners so that people can be anonymous. This day and age all you need is a name and you can go knock on the person's door. So I like that these two lotteries at least are hiding last names although if their pictures are posted that is another vulnerability

In the video I watched, this guy gave a couple examples of how he was able to find a way for his client to claim anonymously in states that were not anonymous. In one state he said he studied the wording of the law and worked with the state Attorney General who agreed with his interpretation. I guess I'd have to get a signed agreement that he can do that in Idaho, and if not, I owe him only a few hundred bucks for his time investigating it.

Does anybody know if any of the top prize winners of a million dollars in the current raffle will be able to remain anonymous? I won 40 bucks yesterday. I'm going to spend it on two millionaire raffle tickets. If I was ever so lucky to win one of the top prizes, I'd want to claim it anonymously, but I'm not sure that can happen. That's awful, I'd hate to be tracked like that for the rest of my life. I'm surprised he didn't go the trust route and have an attorney claim the prize for him. Even in countries like Australia or in Europe where you can remain anonymous, it's telling that no one ever steps forward to name them self, which is of course entirely ok to do. Everyone knows the pain that would come from such a decision. The states in the US that force you to come forward should really rethink that policy.
