A bit of context for people who might not be aware. California's multiplier numbers do not work like the other states' do. California divides the prize money derived from sales into 8 different buckets representing the 8 non-jackpot prize levels. Each bucket is its own prize pool that all the winners of that prize level share. The multiplier number on each winner's ticket represents its share of that prize pool. Our pool buys tickets in California. With no state tax, that leaves more money to divide among members of the pool in the event we win big. But with that comes some bad news. The prizes are parimutuel. In all other jurisdictions, the second place prize is at least $2 million. In California it varies based on how often it is won. In the next draw, second place prize is only about $0.5 million. We have to take the good with the bad.

then why haven't you moved to california and made a living off your self-proclaimed ability to predict california pick 3? you'd be making on average $1000 a day. (yeah i know the ca payouts are variable, but 2 times an average of $500 is $1000, for the math challenged.) i'm pretty sure if you were making $1000 a day on average you would find better things to do than brag about not winning the lottery in 2 years. have a glitterrific day. i am the glitterologist.

Would be hilarious if Powerball overtook Mega Millions. I don't think it likely but crazier stuff has happened. On an unrelated note, California Super Lotto Plus has been rolling for 5 months now at drawings for over 20 weeks. I don't know what the record is for most rolls for California Super Lotto but it would be nice if the jackpot was finally won. Most I have won through this run so far was $11 when I matched two number plus the super number.

The prizes in California are parimutuel. Yes, sometimes they are smaller than average. But sometimes they are much bigger than average. The second tier prize in Powerball in California has been as large as $7 million.
