Wouldn't be a problem if you can claim the prize anonymously.
In Australia you can.

Major claim deadline approaching for Illinois lottery winner of $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot
The Illinois Lottery allows winners to remain anonymous so let's hope this jackpot winner is having a problem deciding cash or payments and the ticket is not lost and goes unclaimed.
Just occurred to me maybe the winner hired Crawford Shaw to validate the ticket and Shaw will wait until the 11th hour before heading to lottery headquarters.
All kidding aside, the winner might not even know their claiming options have a 60 day deadline. We'll know in a couple of weeks.

$1.5 billion Mega Millions winner explains how "Lottery Lawyer" Jason Kurland stole $83 million
So back to anonymity. Illinois law says anything over $250K can remain anonymous...but the next line is what gets me. Paraphrasing here: However if someone uses the FOIA we will comply with that law and give them the name and city of the winner. Darned if you do, darned if you don't.
Does this just pertain to the average Joe Doe who uses anonymity without a trust? I'd think a trust lawyer would be the way to go. No matter what, in this day and age if someone wants to unearth something seems

$1.5 billion Mega Millions winner explains how "Lottery Lawyer" Jason Kurland stole $83 million
I don't really get the whole anonymous thing. All you did was buy a $2 lottery ticket and got incredibly lucky (and rich I might add). Either way this couple still got taken.
They're biggest downfalls is entrusting so much money to someone you barely met on the internet. Kurland did a great job of marketing his services. Paid handsomely for said services too. Maybe if they started out small then gradually increase their assets under management things would have turned out differently. Perso

One Illinois lottery ticket wins $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot
Surprised no one commented on the fine print. Illinois law says if you win over $250K you can remain anonymous BUT if FOIA is used, they are legally bound to tell the name and city of the person. Darned if you do, darned if you don't. Reading that it would make me get a trust Attorney to cash it in.
Like others, would love to know if it was a QP or not.
If we didn't have that crappy RNG here I'd play both the store # and the address on Pick 4/pick 3 respectively!

Lottery rigger Eddie Tipton released on parole
Saw this in a post from a 2012 thread,
The lottery office is always trying to find a reason not to pay out and i don't see anything wrong the lottery offices are greedy and crooks themeselves their will be alot of people that will claim their winnings in a trust. I know i would because i don't want or need to go public with my winnings i feel like all states should be anonymous.
Ironic how that poster called the lottery people (including Tipton) crooks and touted claiming anonymously. Wh

Record-breaking £184 million EuroMillions lottery winners revealed
Talk about Divine intervention from her late Dad!
Perhaps Mrs. Thwaite won't quit being a hairdresser...it may be her passion...or her and Sister will bail out on their joint venture.
Once again, why didn't they go the anonymous route?
In any case this was a great feel good story!

€200 million EuroMillions lottery winner donates nearly entire prize to save the planet
Anonymous Frenchman wants to encourage human beings to give back to the planet and others
By Kate Northrop
An anonymous Frenchman who won the second-largest EuroMillions jackpot in history back in December 2020 has already given away most of his fortune in a bid to protect the environment.
A French EuroMillions winner of a massive 200 million (US$218 million) jackpot is not interested in fancy cars, huge mansions, or expensive vacations. Instead, he wants to see his money put to us

Is it worth driving one hour to state that allows anonymity?
If someone used a LLC for a million dollar prize and stayed anonymous, then a larger jackpot should allow the same option.
You are not relinquishing control of the money with a llc or trust. The attorney has a temporary power of attorney to claim the money on your behalf. You are in control of the money.
Trusts or llcs are not always an option depending on the state law and /or lottery precedent.
