The tickets were valued at $99,600, and Hantske cashed in winning tickets and collected more than $67,000.
The theft aside and from a statistics point of view, he actually did pretty good for scratch offs, only losing about 1/3rd of the ticket's face value...

Just in the last two days over $104 million was wagered on MM and PB so it would be difficult to notice a few thousand missing. With 43 states selling tickets each with thousands of retailers, I'll the total amount swindled each year is probably staggering. And that's not counting the money some of the players are cheated out of.
Working in lottery finance allowed McNeil to be creative and steal more, but I'll bet there are many store clerks who combined make McNeil's theft a drop in the buck

Have you ever or even someone you know let a winning ticket get out of your hands and into a dishonest clerks? I honestly can say I never have...and I Always always always check my own tickets first...online, with my phone app....even before my internet was up and running I would call the state lottery line and check my numbers....scratch-offs are harder you just got to know how to read it and be sure before you hand it over to a clerk....Here's a tip...if they say its a losing ticket tell them

You must have lived in a rich school district. I went to school in the 60's and non of that stuff was free.
Actually, my son who graduated in 2011 did get a notepad computer his last 2 years in high school. Can't remember how much it cost, but we had to pay a deposit in case of theft or damage. Then he would turn it in at the end of the year.
