Question about Lump Sum or Annuity
On USA MEGA's FAQ section for Mega Millions it says that a designated beneficiaries will get the rest of your installments upon your death and you still have remaining payments. So you will be able to pass along your money to someone who you choose in both powerball and mega millions.-weshar75

Question about Lump Sum or Annuity
In the FAQ section at powerball website they have this same question asked and they will sell the annuity for the winner's estate at no charge. So the estate gets a lump sum check to pay the estate taxes and then divide it however the estate wants. I would think it is the same for mega millions too since they are basically the same game. But I have not looked it up on the mega millions website.-weshar75

Record Jackpots
I think Florida should join Mega Millions, the MUSL should dissolve Powerball, and Mega Millions should go to an opening jackpot of $16 million with minimum increases of $4 million (or $20 million opening jackpot with $5 million minimum increases if MM changes to a graduated annuity like PB).

Back to Back Jackpot winners
The last time both Mega Millions and California Super Lotto Plus won their jackpots back to back was on January 24th, 2012 when Georgia won a $71 million Mega Millions jackpot followed by a California Super Lotto Plus Jackpot ($11 million) on January 25th, 2012.

Powerball Vs Mega Millions
Powerball is definitely losing because of its higher ticket price. In terms of dollar amounts, PB is clearly smoking Mega Millions, but in terms of number of tickets sold, Mega Millions has the upper hand now, whereas immediately after the cross-selling agreement two years ago up until PB doubled its ticket price, PB sold more tickets than MM given the same jackpot level (even if you go by the cash jackpots).

Will Powerball roll over?
If Powerball rolls over 18 times, like Mega Millions just did, its jackpot would be well over 2 BILLION!! I don't think we'll ever see Powerball roll that many times, simply because it takes the game fewer rolls to get to eye popping jackpots than Mega Millions does, thanks to the $2 ticket price.

How much more have you spent on the record jackpot than normal?
My husband drove but we only went for tickets. Win or lose I am just happy to be apart of this history making jackpot. I have never seen a Mega Millions ticket and now I sit here full of excitement at the possibility that it could be me. When we hit the Georgia state line and I saw the Mega Millions billboard we got off at the next exit.

$540 MILLION: Mega Millions buying frenzy sparks another jackpot increase
The Mega Millions jackpot analysis page shows the yearly payment on the left side. Unlike Powerball, Mega Millions doesn't progressively increase each year. Instead, it is divided over 26 years, each of which is an equal payment. So for Indiana, the yearly payment would be $14,870,769 after taxes.
