$450 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot nears record
Whether you live in a state that allows you to remain anonymous or not, these are some suggestions I'd offer to everyone:
Pray and seek God's guidance. Keep the news of your good fortune to a tight knit small number of people Have ideas/a plan of your own, until your professional team is assembled Get a copy of the book, Strangers in Paradise, by James Grubman, Ph.d, awesome book that gives sound advice to those who have never lived in Paradise - IN WEALTH. Anyone winning this amount pretty

It's time the lottery needs to stop releasing a person name and picture when a big win is won!
I am going to echo my comment I said earlier in this topic. Requiring a name and a picture is just purely reckless disregard for the winners ( and of course families too ) safety. Some will blame it on a persons life style, which is taking the easy route to avoid what people really want, and that is discussing anonymous winner claims.
While I am one of those people that doesn't trust the people behind the big lotteries, people still need to stay safe. If a winner screws up and outs himself/he

I'm with mikeintexas about there being a wait time for them to release your name.
Even 60 days I think would be enough, maybe even 30 days (at least, 30 from the time it clears the bank account). That's more than enough time to move out of a home and into another, with all cash offers you could close on a home as early as one day (at most, 7 days with an inspection and a proper look-over of paperwork).
I'm for claiming via a trust or other means that allow me to stay anonymous, but I would

Is mega millions worth playing anymore?
I also quit playing MM and PB unless they were near record JPs but did'nt have a fixed amount.
I like your phrase Extraordinary circumstances
Although I don't use holidays b-days and such, my extraordinary circumstances will be:
Near record JP when I happen to be visiting an anonymous state like Delaware.

I am on a losing streak
Hi Artist77.
i do agree with you that I focus on the lottery too much. I do not play every draw game and have cut my MM to only the times it goes over 200 Million. In terms of the scratchers I am nowhere where I was when I was playing them regularly. I went back to them in order to have something besides the draw games which have long odds for 2nd place. My goal on PB or MM or even Lucky For Life draw game is to win a 2nd place prize, that's why I always spend the extra dollar on PB or MM whe

I am on a losing streak
Shyguitar:
I think you are backsliding and you are aware of it and this is actually good. I wish you would not look for happiness in scratchoffs. When I am on a losing streak with the draw games, I know it just brings me closer to a small win. But I am happy with a free ticket or moving up on FJA's ranking list, etc. I think you spend too much time focusing on the lottery and really need to cultivate other interests. Isn't there a gambler's anonymous?
Sometimes your remorse is palpable and

You Just Won The Lottery!
If the lottery ever gets past $750 million, I'm driving to SC to buy tickets so hopefully the whole going into hiding thing won't apply to me. Meet with a few financial advisors, ones that deal with high net worth and sudden wealth, and a lawyer. Work out a cover story, start my domestic violence foundation (that will be my new day job until I draw my last breath), buy dream house, dream car, travel whenever possible.
I know this is further along down the road than immediate aftermath, but im

$14.5M Texas Lotto jackpot claimed
Texas should change the law to guarantee winners anonymity. It is completely crazy to require winners to go public. It puts enormous pressure on winners, and many can't deal with it.
If you come into a large sum and everyone knows about it, you will be inundated with people seeking help. It takes a strong person to be able to resist it. But if you try to solve all the world's problems, you will create a big problem for yourself, you will go broke.
If you live in Texas, please con

Would you post a Major Win here on the Forum?
sully16, Here in California only special cases are allowed to be anonymous i.e. police officers, battered spouses who are in a protective environment, ...
Michigan huh, Donald Larson comes to mind. How is that lottery winner doing ? Is he staying out of the news ? Maybe he should have kept it private.
Have a great and winning weekend !!

Would you post a Major Win here on the Forum?
I would. I will still be anonymous. I do not have a scanner so I might mail a copy of the ticket to Todd to prove my win and he could post it for me. Any other ideas ?
I will be taking the annuity option. I have my reasons. Do you want to read them ? Good Luck !!
