NY senator in quest to print ads on lottery tickets
haymaker,
All too often lottery money goes through the school system, not to the school system.
It's not the lottery's fault though, the states practice voodoo accounting and put the money into the school system and then take it or a greater amount out of the school system somewhere else in the system.
There was a recent article on Yahoo business about states that spend the least on schools, Nevada and Mississippi (casinos, no lottery) were both on it, and the other eight state

No one would think you won a big JP if you drove this
I think in most states it's going to be classified as a motorcycle, which may require a helmet in some states. I read an article that says they are trying to get around the helmet requirement.
I think they could resolve it by putting the helmet requirement on something you ride , like a Can Am Spyder as opposed to a three wheeled vehicle you drive like this Elio or a Morgan Three Wheeler.
I like this concept, but having to drive 45 minutes to the nearest Pep Boys is a big minus.

Wife of $1M Powerball winner charged with promoting prostitution
At first glance, I figured this was something about an illegal campaign contribution...then after reading the article, realized my misconception.
Plus, hookers have more ethics than most politicians.

Indiana couple claims $27.5 million Lotto prize
Officials said the winners had the choice of taking payment of $27.5 million as a 30-year annuity where they would have received about $916,000 annually before taxes or as a lump sum of $11.1 million before taxes.
Apparently it's just 30 equal installments. That means that there's no extra money earning interest in the early years, so it would require more principal to generate the annuity payments than is required for PB or MM, assuming the principal is invested at the same rates. I see 3

Couple recovers $50 million lottery ticket
Just speculating, but the article mentions, ...was one day away from claiming the money... Jan 17th was a Friday, and I assume they attended church that Sunday and was planning to visit the lottery office on Monday. I think it was lost early on.
There's more from the Toronto Sun. He apparently ran through the aisles of the convenience store yelling with joy after he found out he won, so people knew that he had won the jackpot. BUT, before the ticket making its way to his wife's purse, he put

Iowa Lottery officials track down $1 million winner
Kudos to both the Iowa Lottery Headquarters security team and the Iowa Kum Go gas station for working together to solve this out-of-state 2nd prize Powerball winner caper!
The article is interesting in that the owner appears to believe that he would have checked his bunch of tickets just in time, anyhow, to find the $1M winner, etc. within ... and claim in time. Maybe yes, maybe no!
Regardless, congratulations newest 2nd prize claiming Powerball winner!

11 more retailers suspended by Florida Lottery
The chances of winning any lottery prize worth $600 or more are remote. Only one in every 8,700 scratch-off tickets sold is worth that much, and the rate is far worse for online games such as Play 4.
that above statement from the lottery scares me a little..
I don't know about scratch offs..but pick 3 and pick 4 players can win more then $600 more often then they think..they also mention in the article it be hard to make a profit..BS..I did even play much last year and made a profit,

Ohio Lottery considering offering a $50 instant ticket
From Ask.com:
Does Lottery Money Really Go to Education?
Answer
Lottery proceeds do go toward education and other things, but the money doesn't have a great effect. In fact, some say it causes more harm than good. The money isn't directly added to education programs, but is instead factored into the budget. The article 'Where Does Lottery Revenue Go?' at http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=92595 Page=1 provides an in-depth look at where the money really goes.
