Am I wrong?
The odds don't change. One thing that has the potential to change is whether you keep the Jackpot all to yourself, or share it with 3 other people. One hint is to play less calendar numbers. This will reduce the odds of sharing with others.So... yes, it is better to play after a major jackpot, only if you want the best odds of keeping it all to yourself, even if it's less money. But not because the odds dropped.

Lottery odds are not as bad as you think
Getting better odds or applying principles to write off numbers is a way we use to improve our odds of winning. We just use these techniques to lower the extreme odds that are running against us. I mean I would definetly try to lower odds from almost 1 in 200 million to lower than most in house state games. This helps us get a better edge and when you gamble that is the thing you are looking for. Because the HOUSE ALWAYS WINS. Brad

Powerball lottery jackpot increases to $92 million
Not a bad idea at all, if one plays a jackpot game, PB or MM, anyway.Prior odds of hitting both might be over 25 quadrillion as NoCompLotto indicated. But, once one of them is being hit, then the odds of hitting both goes down to the normal, 1 in 146M or 175M, which is exactly same as the odds of hitting just (in fact, the remaining) one.May sound completely absurd to nonplayers but, in my opinion, not two completely different worlds of odds to any MM or PB player.1 in 150M and 1 in 25 quadrillio

Smash the MM odds...it is easy!
RJoh I play MM for the Jackpot. I should have made that clear, sorry. You are missing something subtle when you say If you buy one MM ticket, your odds of matching 5of5 is 1:3,819,816. If you buy 46 tickets your odds are 1:83,039 Your odds really are not 83,039 to 1 because if they were, you would have 83,038 losing combinations. Your odds would be 3,819,816 to 46 which would mean there are 3,819, 770 losing combinations. That is a huge but subtle difference!!!!

What do you consider a successful system?
Any system that continually beat the odds is a successful system. Beating the odds doesn't alway mean you will show a profit, for example the overall odds of winning a prize in the Ohio Rolling Cash5 in 1:9 and I've averaged 3:10, but most of the prizes were 2of5 for $1 so overall I lost money. Like other pick5, pick6 and jackpot games, if you don't win a jackpot, you're losing money even if you beat the odds.RJOh

What is better?
MegMillions really puts the screws on the 3rd prize, where the odds are about 70 times more than the associated prize. It'd be nice if they introduced a middle game between the mega-jackpot games (PB, MM, LS) and the 100K pick 5 where all the prizes had the odds were always in proportion to the prize awarded, such as 4-million-to-1 odds for a 2 million dollar prize, 500,000-to-1 odds for a 250 grand prize, and down the line.

My MegaMillions Matrix Suggestion
Quote: Originally posted by JAG331 on April 19, 2005A 5/39 + 2/25 matrix has odds of 1:172,727,100...very comparable to the proposed MM changes. MegMillions and Powerball are really two lotteries, you have to match 3 in one or one in the other to win anything. The odds of matching the bonus balls are 1:52 and 1:42 so the odds of getting your money back is 1:50 or so. With a 2/25 bonus game, the odds of matching two and winning anything would be 1:300, do you really think players would prefer t
