Iowa Lottery releases names of 'Shipping 20' Powerball winners
It's an Iowa state law not a lottery rule and that law applies equally to any public record. Every member of the shipping 20 would have to testify in court and to do that they would all have to state their names for the court record which is public. There are many people in Iowa that don't want to see their names in the paper for judgments, traffic violations, back child support, DUIs, etc, but it's the law. basically, any time a winner is adamant enough about remaining anonymous that they'r

Quaker Oats workers claim $241 million Powerball jackpot
Hurray for the shipping 20!!! 5.6 million after taxes, what a great story. Decent folks who want to give back to their community and local union. Another feather in the cap of pro-pool advocates. This is an unusual case where all twenty are seeking in injunction to prevent their names being given to the public. Should be interesting to follow this one, particularly where Iowa is not an anonymous state.

Lottery Changed my Life
I recently read an article explaining how people who win the lottery often end up in financial trouble not long after. Aside from those who immediately blow their money on stupid stuff, I think many people don't understand the tax implications of such a windfall. For instance, many people who win obviously want to help out their family members and close friends. However, they might not realize that there are gift taxes that need to be paid over a certain amount given. (So there are taxes on top

Have gotten off track of being on budget for lottery anyone else the same?
Hi uklotteryplayer, Thanks for sharing that website with me. It's good that you do not play scratch cards and you are right about it feeding into people's impulsivity . I also have lost more than I've won, I really never should have counted on something like a lottery win in the first place. The people who do win the lottery are few and far between. It's interesting on my state lottery website they always list the names and the amount of money they won (in my state you can't be anonymous), ye

$9.5M lottery win difficult for Canadian chef
This is a sad story how can his own brother and sister in law act like that, this goes to show that people act up over money. I always cross the sc borderline to purchase my tickets because whatever i win i can claim it anonymous this sounds like nc Most states will plaster your picture or your name on tv or their website i live in nc and they will post a $5000.00 win and will post your picture up their like you won $1million i think people should have the option to choose if they want

Claiming Anonymously and keeping your winnings! (a paranoid approach)
Stack47, It's kind of like a trap. You have to sign the ticket to turn it in to claim the prize, and by signing it you agree to whatever they want. I know that's the rules, but since there are states that do allow remaining anonymous, there's no real universal standard so to say.

What does it say on the back of your state's tickets?
From GA a non anonymous state: All ticket, transactions, drawings, winners and prizes are subject to Georgia Lottery Corporation (GLC) rules and regulations and applicable law. Ticket purchasers must be at least 18 years old. Please sign-the ticket is a bearer instrument until signed. All prizes must be claimed within 180 days after the winning draw date. The date of claim is the date of receipt by the GLC. The rest tells you where to claim.

Retired Illinois couple share $656M lottery jackpot
Congrats to them!!! Sounds like they have their stuff in order. I feel badly they couldn't choose to be anonymous. Yet, I wish they could have said something along those lines at the press conference. I hope they don't become the poster-children for why all states should allow anonymity! I always worry about what has to happen for all states to wake up to the dangers of not allowing people to claim large jackpots anonymously. It should be an option - especially for large jackpots!

Winners of big lottery jackpots often crave anonymity amid challenges to do so
You obviously did not read the part about Illinois where people thought they were playing a legitimate lottery, only to find it was a scam. I am sure the good folks of Tennessee will agree with that since they had an issue with the RNG being rigged in their pick 3 and pick 4 games. Corruption reigns supreme in Illinois and I am all for at least seeing the face and reading the name of that winner even if they do claim it in a LLC or trust. Given the way corruption works in Illinois, if Illinois a
