NY vs. CT
Quote: Originally posted by JAG331 on November 30, 2004looking for a daily game to keep me entertained during the Powerball/Mega Millions non-draw nights. Are you still playing NY's Pick 10? I might make that Take 5 my focus when I don't play NY Lotto/Mega Millions.

Payout Structure
Quote: Originally posted by CASH Only on December 9, 2004NY pays out less overall, especially in NY Lotto 6/59.I agree with you CASH. The odds suck for the lower prizes. I think people still play cos the jackpot is sometimes higher than Mega Millions, when Mega Millions starts a new $10 million jackpot. Also it's two games for a buck, which I'm sure people like.I wonder if they're gonna raise the lower prize payouts. I think I'm gonna have to lean on em lol.

Powerball- Why it isn't always good.
My state, Iowa, does not have its own rolling jackpot game simply because it doesn't have a large enough population to support it. Many states do not, and that is why they join up with Powerball or Mega Millions (although many Mega Millions states are large enough to have their own rolling jackpot games -- for instance, Illinois has two: Lotto and Little Lotto).

For some lottery winners jackpot is a 'nightmare'
i've noticed that as well, with a few exceptions (phin suy- won $128 million mega millions jackpot). a lot of them choose to wait a while before claiming the ticket. also, new york has had 2 mega millions jackpot-winning tickets that have gone unclaimed. some people take too long, or lose the ticket.

Conspiracy Theories? Ha!
I guess this evening's Mega Millions win can put to bed once and for all the conspiracy theories about the state lottery jacking up the big jackpots around holiday time .It's rediculous to think that the lotteries could precisely control the jackpots around holiday time, but it's nice to have the actual proof. Hopefully the topic won't surface again next year.Congrats to the latest Mega Millions multi-millionaire!

Strange??
That is not entirely true. In 2003 both lotteries were big, Mega Millions at $155 million and Powerball at $221 million. But in 2002 while Powerball was huge at $314 million, Mega Millions was only $63 million. Still, I know what you mean, they do seem to be bigger in general around the holidays.
