N.J. Gov.'s plan to privatize lottery comes under fire from Democrats
Democratic lawmakers took aim at New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's plan for the private sector to run the New Jersey Lottery, saying the 15-year contract currently on the table benefits the winning company more than New Jerseyans.
At a hearing of the Assembly Budget Committee today, Democrats and small business owners said the proposal needs more public input because the Lottery a $2.6 billion business has been well run over the years and thousands of small businesses could be hurt by the move

Honestly would you really care how much taxes you had to pay??
Well, if it isn't the Reverend Rdgrnr...back again to get drop kicked. Obviously, you know absolutely nothing about business operations, or, you just simply enjoy getting embarassed by me time after time. Starting a new business get's a person a $10K credit. Oh, wow, there's that $10K magic number...AGAIN...and this particular credit can be TWEAKED in many, many ways so long as it's business oriented. Restaurants do this all the time as do other entities. Tax codes are, in fact, designed to help

Million dollar ticket unclaimed
Mediabrat was referring to a nun who won this win-fall just a few months ago. The story was posted by Todd in the Lottery News Forum.
Nothing improper was done, it's just that the public's perception, was that the proceeds were given to some other charitable organization.
Because the winnings were channeled back into the nunnery was still a wonderful gesture, as I'm sure all money is allocated for nothing but the
basics of running their day to day operations, as well as giving back to t

High Speed Trading and the coming Online Lottery
I saw a hedge fund guy interviewed on a business channel and he admitted that the stock market is now dominated by people like him who use it to gamble more than actually place a value on stocks. He also admitted that using complicated math based on probabilities and statistics, that their strategy does not assure 100% win ratio but something less than that. Their strategy actually makes them win more than they lose and they make tons of money out of it.
Soon, states everywhere will allow onl

Florida Lottery education spending investigated
I agree with the current allocation. Sure K-12 is important, but I would say funding for scholarships, rewards, and community colleges is just as important. I am also suspect about the utilization of discretionary funds in any government setting as there are plentiful stories of discretionary funds not being spent in appropriate ways, or just outright fraudulent ways. And this targeted budgeting is unlike earmarks in that those education entities are enduring whereas many earmark projects are te

Arkansas Lottery VPs hope to stay after director leaves
Arkansas Lottery Director Ernie Passailaigue is moving on, but the two top executives he brought with him from South Carolina say they hope to stay put.
Soon after Passailaigue left his job as director of South Carolina s lottery to become director of the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery in the summer of 2009, he hired two South Carolina lottery officials, David Barden and Ernestine Middleton, to be his vice presidents in Arkansas at nearly $100,000 more than their salaries back home.

Illinois lottery website since Northstar took over
I have to agree, since they took over it seems a lot worse. They haven't updated the instant game remaining prizes list since August 16th! And it took them forever to verify winner's information for the first drawing for the first Wheel of Fortune drawing a few weeks back. Yes, their operations were turned over from the state to them. The state still gets their kickback but Northstar takes a huge chunk now too.
This is what happens in Chicago and Illinois! They are privatizing everything b

Illegal betting operations shut due to cash strapped States?
I'm not sure I'm up to making a distinction in matters of ethics and morals between the we treat feedlot cows, dairy cows, battery chicken [layer and meat] operations, and pets. Not to say I believe in the US there's any danger of what I suggested in my post actually happening so long as things don't get a lot worse than they are. My comments were tongue in cheek in response to the dog soldier anecdote.
But by the time WWII reached a conclusion in Europe a person would have been hard-pressed

Baltimore feds target Internet gambling sites
Yep, sounds like one of their Keystone Kops operations.
But as always, even though the only ones hurt were American citizens, in their minds, it's the thought that counts.
Yes, all incompetence and failure aside, they meant well.
