Cash 4Life
I did some digging on The NYS Lottery's website and found a PDF file containing C4L's official rules. After reading the following paragraph, it seems to me that an annual check is a definite maybe ! Jackpot and second-level prize payment options. A claimant of a valid winning jackpot or second-level prize in New York must select either an annuity option or lump sum option. A jackpot or second-level prize shall be paid as an annuity prize, unless a winner elects, within 60 days after the

Why is the new cash option so low for MM?
You need to change your thinking. But many others also feel this way. The cash value is not low, it's really the annuity value is high. They're playing a mind trick on you. Not only did they boost the annuity from 26 years to 30 years, they changed from fixed to graduated payments with 5% per year increase, higher than Powerball's 4% per year increase. It's inflated for marketing purposes. And unfortunately, it works. Again, the cash value is not low, it's the annuity value that is arti

$189 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot rolls again
The near destruction of the Megamillions game because of the $2 Powerball ticket - and the resulting jackpot fatigue - has certainly reduced the overall sales increase figures for the state lotteries, and, I think, may end up with them spinning their wheels. There is no reason that the new matrix should be any better. There isn't a real increase in the $12 million starting jackpot, since it's merely being masked by changing the annuity scheme from 26 years to 30 years. What we might see is it

Twelve things not to do if you win the lottery
First, taking the annuity requires that you trust the government running the lottery to be both willing and able to make those payments. I do not believe those funds are set aside outside the governments control. Maybe someone here can counter that if it's not true. There are too many examples out there of states making ex post facto changes to laws for me to trust them not to do so for nearly three decades, or to determine way down the road that your funds would be better used for the public go

Twelve things not to do if you win the lottery
It's actually pretty difficult to find any guaranteed investment that pays off better than the one you'll get from the lottery. Jackpot size directly drives sales volume, so it is a primary mission of the lottery to get that annuity rate as high as it can, which makes the jackpot larger. Lots of people make the mistake of thinking that the cash value is derived from the advertised annuity, when in fact it is the opposite. They start with the cash amount that they have in-hand from the previou

Can MM & PB Start Being Honest? Must this farce continue?
This has been explained so many times I'm amazed this still comes up. The cash value is the amount that the lottery would INVEST over a period of time to achieve the ANNUITY amount. You want the money now? Take the cash option. You want an income stream over x number of years? Take the annuity. Yes they promote the annuity amount. It's the larger amount. Ok. No big deal. If you go to PB's website and read it, they explain it in precise detail.

It now appears certain that Megamillions will go 6 months...
True enough. If one plays by expectation value - and I very much doubt that many people do - Powerball can be a better bet. But, of course, the Powerball annuity jackpot needs to be more than twice as large (annuity) for that to happen. (Recall that the expectation value is the likely prize - adjusted for the probability of there being more than one winner - divided by the odds times the cost of the ticket.) What Powerball can almost never do - unless it goes to a billion dollars annuit

New England states start new lottery game Thursday
Media...let me share some light on the cash now mentality. You made great points on the taxes and inflation now and taxes down the road issues....Here's some more food for thought....At 35% tax rate as of right now ??....my taxes are all done, finished without any chance of increase at all over then next 29 years. The only tax I pay is on the interest I make in the future on the multi millions in my current possession that I have invested. I can buy my houses, cars, vacation homes, land, gold
