This story about the missing Lotto winner here in Florida has me freaked out. Other than saying an emphatic NO! to all the freeloaders, I'm wondering what else Mr. Shakespeare could've done differently. I'm vehemently opposed to the Lottery releasing the names of winners who wish to remain anonymous. Even if you don't tell anyone, any con artist (and FL is full of them) can find you.
The question then is, what do you do when you win? What does forming a trust do for you? What's a blind trust?

Arkansas Powerball lottery winner in no rush to claim jackpot
Me, too.
I assure you, there would be no hesitation...I would be there the very next business day to claim it, I don't want any advisors, as I trust myself the most. I will claim it anonymous, lump sum and direct deposit. Then I will spend a couple of days, paying off every debt I have (it wouldn't take long), go buy the house I want, buy both of my oldest daughters a new car, pay all my utility bills in advance...and withdraw the rest and shove it somewhere that the sun doesn't shine, and no

If You Won Both?
You are so right ScaryChick.
And yes, I would keep both. I would use the money as I please. Of course give some to charities of my choice over time. But, take a look back at people who have gone out of their way to give out their newly found wealth. Winners are missing, scammed, and baggers lurk outside of their doors. People seem to mistake giving to those in need as supporting those in want.
I would try my best to remain anonymous or move where no one knows my names.

Florida sheriff fears lottery winner murdered
Authorities in Florida are offering a $5,000 reward for information on a multimillion dollar lotto winner who has been missing since April. The family of Abraham Shakespeare, 43, reported him missing on November 9, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. When Thanksgiving passed without word from him, authorities raised the reward in an effort to get information, spokeswoman Donna Wood said. Shakespeare won $31 million in the Florida Lottery in 2006.

Florida sheriff fears lottery winner murdered
I agree with you, and I thank my lucky stars that whenever I do win, I won't have to do that, here. It seems that it caused a whole WORLD of problems for him. If he could've been anonymous, things may not have turned out this way.
I realize the lotteries love a publicity stunt, but they really don't need it. I think they will sell PLENTY of tickets, regardless of whether every single person goes public. Some people will, some love the attention. NOT ME! I can just imagine the people that woul

How will you feel if your Spouse/boyfriend did this to you...
1) This is why it is a good idea to stay anonymous if you win the lottery, and why you should sign your ticket.
2) I really think that there should be a law against this kind of thing.
Besides, he is probably the kind of person who would not handle the big win appropriately. He would splurge, run out of money, and then wish he had never won the lottery. Then I might be THANKFUL that he did this.

California woman claims $39M lottery jackpot
Salinas told lottery officials she wasn't interested in talking with the media about her huge windfall, said Traverso, who declined to provide any more information about her.
A very good idea!
But why did her name have to be released? Here in Australia, winners just have to say they wish to remain anonymous, and that's it, their names are kept confidential.

What is your Lottery Post posting signature? Why did you choose it?
Mine all came from discussions we've here on LP.
Since lotto is really an all or nothing endeavor (secondary prizes are chump change for the most part, except for 5 + 1 games, but they're still no jackpot) I have the one about It's Lotto, close doesn't count .
I use the phrase from Catch 22 by Milo Mindebinder becuase of a discussion we had about predicting more Pick 3 numbers than a Pick 3 hit paid and calling it a win .
The last one is from numerous discussions about remaining anonymo

Multi-state lottery shockwave sweeping America
I'm really happy that NC is getting Mega Millions!
I know it will dilute the pool a bit, but I like them better than Powerball.
Also, I play MM in VA when I drive through, but I don't like that VA won't allow anyone to remain anonymous or allow them to do trusts or LLC's.
So I'm really glad NC is getting into MM!!!
