$900 MILLION: Powerball jackpot rises, but sales miss in last draw makes for small increase
The PB worksheet on the TX lottery website still shows the initial forecast for sales of about $197.5 million (and an annuity of 875) for Saturday's drawing, but that was based on increasing from 750 to 875 million. The actual increase to just under 830 million suggests sales were actually about $126 million. The sales forecast for Wednesday is listed as just under $98 million, so the actual increase was a hair over 28%.
That would suggest that Monday's jackpot would increase by about $103 m

The ever increasingly inflated jackpot prizes for MM and PB
I suppose states could advertise the cash value jackpot, but someone will complain about after tax cash value or the after back child support, back taxes, etc cash value too. How about the most I can collect jackpot if I wisely invest my 30 annuity payments?
When states first started drawing lotto type games with rolling jackpots, most of the payoffs were annuities. For instance a $1 million jackpot was paid by 20 payments of $50,000. Not sure if the PB and MM jackpots always gave a cash opt

Did MM increase the jackpot?
Or did they screw up and accidentally reveal some marketing truth and announce an imaginary cash value that's needed to buy the advertised annuity?
The TX lottery website MM worksheet says that a roll will bring us an advertised jackpot of $354 million for Tuesday, but with a slightly higher cash: annuity ratio. It's also showing that higher ratio for tonight's drawing, and both the worksheet and the official MM website are reporting the cash value for tonight's drawing as $175.8 million ins

$1.28 BILLION: Lottery officials raise tonight's Mega Millions jackpot estimate again
Someone reported yesterday that it will be around 51%.
The updated jackpot means they've revised the sale estimate upwards by roughly 100 million tickets. If every ticket was chosen randomly the chance of a rollover is very close to 1 in 3, and a single winner is the most likely outcome.
If it does roll the starting jackpot of $1.7 billion will set a new cash record by a bit less than $10 million if the cash/annuity ratio remains the same. If the cash annuity ratio goes down a bit we may

$630 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot soars after no winner Tuesday
Weirdly, the cash value was just upped to $388 million (11th-largest US cash value in history), but the annuity did not change ( $660 million ).
So, more ticket sales are happening than expected, but I suppose interest rates (used to calculate the annuity) went down a bit.

VIDEO: How are lottery jackpots calculated?
Wow, I did not realize that a lot of people did not know this about the draw games already.
What has me confounded is the changing cash amounts on the scratch tickets. Usually, here, they are paid out by annuity and the cash amount has remained fixed for long periods of time. First $1,000,000 was $654,266 cash then, for the longest time it was $634,517 and recently the payout was increased to about $693,250. I have been reading the winner announcements and they announced a $20 winner as ta

Australian man who won nearly $1 million in lottery gave it all away

Looks like the ole PB moved into the #24 position for annuity value and #20 on the cash value.
MM Hasn't cracked the top 25 for annuity....BUT.. is #21 on the list behind this new PB run....
Not too shabby

Oregon Lottery Payouts on Jackpot Games
Oregon doesn't even have the cash value amounts of PB or MM listed anywhere
I can only assume that the 50% figure on the OR website is the result of stupidity or extreme carelessness. NY hasn't listed cash values for years, either. The only reason I can think of is that they'd prefer players to think they're actually playing for the advertised amount instead of the lower cash value because everyone knows that bigger jackpots sell more tickets. That any particular lottery tries to take advan

Powerball changes/Monday draw
I noticed this last PB roll was extremely weak.
There are 3 reasons. One is that they came up short on the previous jackpot estimate, so the $3 million increase in the annuity jackpot was really about $6 million. Another is that the cash: annuity ratio went up, so the cash value increased by more than $3 million. And finally, MUSL doesn't really know how players will respond to a Monday drawing that never used to exist. Even if people know there are now 3 weekly chances and want to play the
