Casino says no way to $62 million slot machine payout
If it was one of those multi location progressive slots, $62m is not unheard of. Those seem to have more than their fair share of malfunctions on wins and I avoid them unless it is a fun game like Wheel of Fortune, or my fave, the long gone Elvis Slots. On the other hand, if the machine shows a payout of $62m on a single machine with a max $5k, then you go by the win chart stated on the machine. That's a no brainer and should be tossed out of court. The article did not give enough info.

Brian McCarthy won $107 million in the Mega Millions lottery after buying a ticket in a Giant grocery store in Herndon. McCarthy says he checked his ticket after reading an article posted on a local radio station's Facebook page that posted the winning numbers. After checking the article, McCarthy phoned

$228.9M Powerball lottery ticket sold in Minnesota
It looks like the winners (a couple) have come forward to claim the jackpot. They are an elderly couple (of course) who had just met with their financial advisor on Monday and they actually said, Looks like the only way we are going to be able to retire is if we hit the lottery. It looks like the lottery is now the new safety net. Forget social security. Well congrats. We now know their names, but since I am overseas right now, I don't know if they have made a public appearance. I did see the ne

Did Joan Ginther have a little help in her 4 lottery wins?
The Harpers article talks about ...how...she could have got inside info. Nicholas Taleb talks about this phenomenon in Black Swan by pointing out that... First, it [ a rare event] is an outlier, as it lies outside the realm of regular expectations, because nothing in the past can convincingly point to its possibility. Second, it carries an extreme impact. Third, in spite of its outlier status, human nature makes us concoct explanations for its occurrence after the fact, making it explain

Did Joan Ginther have a little help in her 4 lottery wins?
Yes inside info on the scratchers only. I don't really know what inside info they could get from the owner, but the article is supposed to prove it's possible. I imagine the inside info would take a math wiz to crack.

Massachusetts Lottery closes loophole after big wins
I read another article on this. These retailers violated a lot of rules. The employees that printed tickets weren't even present, sometimes. Printing tickets before and after business hours. The customer was not present when some tickets were printed. Employees aren't allowed to be hired to work the lotto machine solely for this purpose, they need to work at other times. The stores got greedy.

I Am A Lottery Winner In My Imagination Whenever I Buy One Ticket
Hi Thrifty, Thanks for a very informative post and for the link to the article about the New York lottery. I know that the big games have hurt the sales of the in State games, but what I l don't understand is why. [I finally got a chance to respond and now there's an electrical storm and I can't finish writing. This is so funny because when I bought my Powerball ticket last week there was lightening when I left the store. I wasn't exacly thrilled at that moment when I thought about what the s

Mass. Lottery game very profitable for those who know how and when to play
If its a guaranteed return if you invest $500,000 would Bank of America allow people to borrow money and buy CashWinfall tix when the jackpot is full? I suspect the other high rollers around the country will read this article and fly in to buy tickets the next time the jackpot is full. Then a lot of media attention will follow and questions raised then shutdown of the game. Those odds are amazing if you got that kind of bread to risk. I have known about this little quirk for some time now
