$548 MILLION: Mega jackpot to spark ticket-buying frenzy
I think that the new rankings are now #4 for the Annuity and #7 for the Cash Lump Sum. Although the Annuity is only shy of the #3 ranking by $2 million. I would think that will be reached before Tuesday's draw time. Anyway, these amounts will revolutionize a winner's life. Sometimes change can be difficult to move through. I will consult with a psychiatrist and psychologist soon after winning. The emotional challenges will need attention.

Mega Millions lottery jackpot swells to $405 million
Bleudog101, I looked at the MM Annuity and Cash rankings. These new amounts will make the rankings for the Annuity $470 million #13 and the Cash Lump Sum $265 million # 17. I used the chart that is at the top of this Post. When Todd creates the new MM hall of fame we will see if I am correct. What are your plans for the Cash Lump Sum after all taxes are paid = $167,000,000.00

Option for annuity vs. lump sum on lesser prizes?
https://www.lotterypost.com/search?q=annuity+vs.+lump First always talk with tax professional. For STATE jackpot lotteries and scratchers, it is a tossup. Unless your yearly payment is 1MIll+, lump is usually best for tax reasons. Smaller amounts, tax difference savings will probably be better then (guaranteed) investment income to get annuity. Also need to consider, is it enough to quit job and retire, your age (are you going to die before it cash it all), do you have massive debt that ne

Mega Millions $252,000,000.00
You can always buy a better annuity I'm guessing that is very true. I'd love some good advice on how to do that with less than 2/3 of the money the lottery has for buying an annuity.

Super Raffle/Best Michigan games ever?
Thanks for the update! I am watching the numbers on the website and I think I will plunk down some money when there are 50K or so left. For no real reason. I just like the thought of that. I am shocking myself on this one. I am seriously considering taking the annuity for the jackpot. Lucy usually wants the loot upfront! But that annuity amount would allow early retirement without having to tap the retirement well to soon...I must need more sleep.

Biggest Scratch Prize ever
Sorry, I should have specified that I am looking for the highest Cash Prize payout *NOT* annuity. Also, I'm looking at actual scratch payouts and *NOT* the second chance drawings. That Billion dollar prize will never be won. I read the rules for that and it is pretty much rigged so that nobody will ever win that. In fact in the first version of that game the most anybody won on the second chance was $2 million but I don't know if that was cash or annuity. The second version has started wit

Powerball or Mega MIllions
Why choose between them? Play both. The starting amount for Mega Millions is $15 million - Annuity. If you choose the lump sum you will keep a bit over $5 million after deductions and taxes. The starting level for Power Ball is $40 million - Annuity. Here you will keep about $15 million after deductions and taxes when you select the Lump Sum. Power Ball does have the advantage with the $40 million starting point because if you play advance play your ticket will still win about $15

Is the annuity really worth if anyone does hit?
Annuity- having some other entity manage and benefit from YOUR money. Money markets and IRAs are no different. I 'feel' that annuity is for folks inept at controlling their future debts/budget. This limits them and creates an ebb and flow to see them thru the next check.. Lest we forget taxes go up every year...

$435 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot on track to 17-month high
Music - Good points. Great piece on Emily, you have our thanks. As for the annuity vs lumpsum. I think it's a personal call, but since we never know when we going to buy the farm, l would want all my eggs upfront, l will divvy up those babies to how l see fit.Living longer now is in hindsight 20/20- You could be harmlessly eating a sandwich that sucker could lodge in your throat and next thing you know , it's voices of Angels in the background getting louder louder. Ever heard of a boxer, let's

Which is best, Lump Sum vs Annuity? (Super Lotto!)
I agree. But, if you are young and have a huge jackpot, annuity may be better way to go. You would start out taking home 7-10 mil and go up. That would tie me over until next yearly check. And, if you have heirs, the annuity payments would be passed on to them. There may be tax consequences, tho, so again, the need to consult an expert. But I'm old and I dont trust the state to have my money so, lump sum it is.
