Police foil alleged plot to kidnap lottery winners
The article said that the guy got their name ouit of the phone book, so I don't think it had much to do with how cautiouis they were or weren't.
This is a darn good example of why jackpot winners should be allowed to be anonymous.

Re: A crime wasn't committed . A crime wasn't commited in the Ft Dix bomb plot, either, was it? When the police can step in and stop a crime beofre it's committed, more power to them!

After a $100 Million jackpot win, how would you deal with family?
One of the main reasons I continue scheming to find a way to remain anonymous when I win is so that my family would never find out. I'm not close to any of them, and there's only one that I even kinda sorta like. If he were the only one, I'd probably give him a couple hundred thousand. But since he'd tell the rest and then there'd be real trouble, I won't tell him or give him anything either.
If it ends up that it's impossible to claim anonymously, then as soon as I get the check I'll move

What Will You Give Back?
Squaring away my immediate family will be top of the list.
Then the friends and family that could use the help.
After that, perhaps the Shriner's Children's hospitals.
As for solicitations, NO WAY... Even if it is a charity/relative/friend I may have given to otherwise... They will just fuel my Winners should remain anonymous fire.

Wisconsin $40 million PowerBall Winner remains anonymous......
This is what the Wisconsin Lottery website says about remaining anonymous:
Not in the true sense of the word. Wisconsin has what is called an open records law. In short, virtually any piece of information state government produces or controls is available to any organization or person requesting. The statutes are specific however, in determining what individual information may be subject to this law. Only information in the public s interest may be released by a government agency. Wh

$75M Texas Lotto jackpot claimed by business partnership
Now I can't prove this at all but...it is highly likely that this is the name of the corporation that he formed to accept the winnings. It is an interesting strategy, to accept the prize in a partnership under the umbrella of a corporation. I've done hours...days...weeks even worth of research to try to find the best way to accept a prize while minimizing tax liability and keeping anonymous. Why anyone would even give their name if you provide the name of the company (being the legal entitiy to

$75M Texas Lotto winner a 'regular player'
I have seen winners announced in Texas where the lottery said that minimal publicity was requested. They would release the name and city, but nothing about the person's work, age, or anything else.
I remember one case where the winner was a limited partnership. A limited company was the managing partner and accepted the money. The family's lawyer was the president of the company and handled the entire thing. The family's surname was in the name of both the partnership and the company, so

When he was talking about the 50,000 pieces of mail he got from people asking for money, he said, and you have to love this coming from someone who won over $300,000,000 on a lottery ticket:
Everybody wants somethign for nothig.
And did you pay atttention folks? 50,000 pieces of mail from strangers.
Anyonre still saying they wouldn't stay anonymous, given the choice?
