Ohio Lottery to sell $30 ticket that offers a chance to win $10 million
After reading through the article, this $30 scratcher game isn't as good as it sounded by reading the title and first few paragraphs. One, it uses annuity values to advertise the two top prizes. Second, the prizes start at $10, considerably lower than the face value of the ticket.
It's one thing to advertise scratcher top prizes using annuity values for games that have prizes like $5,000 a week for life but this is misleading.
This Ohio $30 game seems more akin to our $20 game. Our advert

Looking at that 586 million...I think I want the annunity
If you really want an annuity, you should still take the cash and buy your own annuity or maybe more than one,
you can get different times and terms, also the big chunk of cash will allow you to invest in other things,
rather then tie up all the $ in one thing.
Diversity is the key.

$586 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot climbs toward a new record
$550 milion was the original advertsied amount for this drawing. The actual starting point is the finishing point for the last drawing. I never saw a final total over the $425 million that was advertised, but based on sales I expect it was somewhere close to $440.
If they do sell 400 million tickets that will add a bit more than $130 million to the cash value, which means about $242 million for the advertised annuity. That would give us a final total of about $680 million for the annuity valu

I like what Coin Toss said. You can buy an annuity with the cash.
My main reason for the cash is that I might not live 30 years and I don't want a headache for my wife or kids with estate taxes. On top of that, 30 years is a long time. With the way the country and the economy, and taxes are going, I don't believe anyone really knows what is going to happen. Can anyone really say with certainty that if things go in the dumper that your annuity would survive? If that happened, I realize maybe c

Mega Millions odds 1:259 Million, almost half already used up..
The cash jackpot record will not be broken Tuesday. Friday, maybe.
I actually don't think the current annuity record will be broken Tuesday either. I'm thinking it will rise to $600 million.
MM director is predicting 65-70% of combinations will be sold. She verified that they have NEVER sold every Mega Millions combination for any drawing. With the new matrix, they would have to sell well over a billion tickets to do so. She also said the annuity will most certainly be $1 billion or more i

Mattapan,
How many jackpot winners have taken an annuity and then sold it to one of those structured settlement companies - for dimes on the dollar?
Also, someone here used to have a signature, You can always buy a better annuity .
Just a couple of things to think about.

$344 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot skyrockets
That's true, but at the same time, there aint a whole lot you can't buy with the 14m to 30m a year you'd be making with that annuity. Even if you encountered things you couldn't buy, no one in their right mind is going to sit there and deny you credit.
I think if it hit a mark of 900 million, I'd just take the annuity. That's an average of 18 million a year after taxes at the current rate, but then again, taxes are likely to increase. But will it increase to the point where losing 50% of y

$297 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot raised again before tonight's drawing
Sales for MM were already way down and getting pummelled by PB prior to the new MM. But to say that the sales were down even more because of the new matrix is not only premature, it is inaccurate.
On the contrary, it is clear from my graph to see that not only did players not abandon MM with the new matrix, they responded with higher sales due to new annuity. And all of the big JP runs on PB and MM follow similar curves, so it's pretty easy to forecast how they will end up. It's just shifted

$297 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot raised again before tonight's drawing
Actually, MM sales seem to have responded nicely since the new matrix. Their ploy with the pumped up annuity value seems to have worked, players seem to have bit into it hook, line and sinker. Sales have been boosted by the pumped up annuity value.
Below graph compares current run in blue (with projections) compared to preceding $189M run (P) on old matrix ending 10/1/13 in orange:
But compared to a year ago with the record $656M run (R) , yes, way down. But that was a different time w

Let's just say the 75 number MM never gets hit...
Probably 3, but no more than 4. Assuming it already got to half a billion.
The record MM jackpot of $656 million was the 19th drawing of that run. The last time it got to a 19th drawing was the beginning of October, and that was only $189 million. I'd guess we'd need another 5 rolls to reach half a billion dollars on the current run, but if it gets there subsequent rolls will be huge. The final increase for the record jackpot was almost $300 million, and that was before the change in the annu
