DOJ says privatizing state lotteries illegal
I'm not an attorney BUT... The Feds have limited ability to manage the operations of state government (the principle at work here is Federalism). Federal dollars go into welfare programs (as per example at the end of the article) and are disbursed by the States. No federal dollars go into state lotteries and it is unclear to me that they have significant say in this area. Looks to me like opponents of privatization (which has more than enough of its own issues on the meri

Ontario lottery winners: remember when you bought the ticket ... or else
They could refuse payment, because a bearer bond doesn't mean what most people think it means, but they aren't refusing payment. The delay is a result of their new rules because of insiders winning too many prizes. There's an article with more info here: http://www.canada.com/windsorstar/news/story.html?id=05c5068b-bb69-4f8f-8298-4915eb0ea20f @ scarychick: Some lotteries print the time on the ticket and some don't. I can't figure why any of them do, other than complete stupidity. The lotte

A Federal Gaming Commission
Some public records like drivers licences are covered under the full faith and credit clause in Article IV of the U.S. Constitution; for instance a valid New York drivers license allows New York residences to legally drive in California. State licenses like hunting or fishing are not covered under Article IV because they are designed to do specific things within that state. A New York hunting or fishing license is not valid in California but a New Yorker can purchase a license in California to h

N.Y. lottery winner and tenant fight thief
Woah, your college professor needs to take a lesson in overgeneralizing about certain circumstances. I am living proof that His narrowminded concept doesnt hold water. As to the nature of this article, Two things hold true. It IS the lotteries duty to share with the public the name of the winner. Far too many folks try to hide their true networth. Crime doesnt discriminate whether rich or poor, it is an equal opportunity destroyer. As a famous actor once said. I chose the public limelight so

Group of nine claims $207M Powerball lottery jackpot
LOL! Nah, the guy in the middle helping hold the check is the head lottery official in N.M. The man hardly smiling is the son of one of the couples. This newsstory said they haven't decided yet how to split the money among the 9 but they know it won't be evenly. I smell a lawsuit coming on. :-) http://kob.com/article/stories/S604904.shtml?cat=500

Curse of the lottery
ahhhh! Thats just not fair! If I can find the article, I'll read up on it. What luck...I mean geez! I can't even break even! lol I wonder how much he put down for that win. I know he used $100 for the big one. I'm giving my hubby a $20 this weekend to try out in Idaho. We don't have PB in Washington. I've only played PB maybe 3 times all together. Is it wise to do the power play? I'm doing $10 qp's +power play for a total of $20 and call it good. 200M! OH MY GOODNESS!

Maryland Mega Millions lottery winner claims prize anonymously
sorry but I dont want anyone kissing a ticket that I just bought! (unless its Johnny Depp!). Got an issue with germs as it is. Didnt get riled up by this article so much as the arrogance of the woman saying she JUST KNEW she won it since she bought it there. Like no one else bought tickets there before her. I am neither congradulatory or envy her. She has alot of things to consider with her wealth....

International super lottery to create jackpots of $500 million or more
I agree, Coin Toss. Given the huge amounts of money at stake, corruption in such a lottery would be rampant and unavoidable. Those currently charged with running state lotteries in America are now beginning to whine that it's too hard to make a profit, and that it would be easier and more profitable to privatize this significant stream of state revenue. If the top prize is $500 million, they'd need to generate two or three times that amount in ticket sales and, from what I read in the a
