Anybody Ever Win?
I see you are from N.Y. Have you ever heard of Urban Kress. He use to do an article in the old N.Y. lottery news. Quite a stats keeper he was or still is.

Study ranks Missouri lottery as ninth best in U.S.
You all mustn't have seen the original article posted at Lottery Post a week or two ago. https://www.lotterypost.com/news/167779 That's the story which first talked about the study, and there is a link to the complete study in the comments that follow the story.

Pearl found on Restaurant.
Maybe she had it in her pocket when they sat down to eat and knew such a story would make the headlines! It's not only rare, but the pearl itself is rare, purple in color. The article said he bit into something very hard. Hmm. Good thing it wasn't a piece of glass or the restaurant wouldn't be getting good press, but a lawsuit instead. LOL Pac, yuck-yuck-yuck. I like your clam puns. I really dig them.

Million Dollar Raffles
Nope, I wouldn't consider myself a millionaire until I had a million dollars in my bank account and real property. The paper is reporting that the Idaho winner took home $672,000 after taxes. Could someone who's good at math tell me how much in Federal taxes that would be, assuming 7.8% went to state taxes? Thanks. Here's the article. www.idahostatesman.com/newsupdates/story/252145.html

Don't buy lottery tickets for kids, researcher warns
Somewhere there's an unedited draft of the article that reads: That can really have life-altering consequences. You can't smell it on their breath. You can't see it in their pupils and there's no urine test, said Sklar, who is a mother, and a nut job who sees problems in every activity that could possibly be abused. Buying $5 worth of lottery tickets, no matter who you buy them for, means you've bought them a $5 gift. The only real problem I see is if you're giving your kids a $5 Christmas

$3 million Florida Lottery ticket expires Monday
Nobody has to ask me what I think! Earlier this month I read a similar article about a $2 million Fantasy 5 jackpot that was won in Sunrise. It doesn't affect my life, but to imagine I've been playing every week for many years and finally someone hits the Lotto and loses the ticket or forgets about it...it's too mind-boggling to process. I know another explanation could be that the player got sick or died. That is why I tell people to keep their tickets in a particular place (not the pocket

Most lottery players never see big payoff
A 401(k) is only risky if the employee invests in the company stock (like Enron) or a mutual fund that doesn't perform well and his portfolio isn't adequately diversified. Usually he/she has a choice and can pick a fixed annuity and/or bonds as well. Even if the investment is conservative, 4% or 5% over time is better than nothing, especially if a company offers to match contributions. A little more risky, but relatively conservative, portfolio of stocks will usually average 8% over 25 years.

Georgia Lottery winner roundup (Dec. 2007)
Thanks, Toney. Then the article is incorrect since it says he got all 6 numbers and won $1,000 a week for a year, unless I'm crazy or can't read (or both.) This makes more sense to me now. EDIT: Nope - now that I look at it - I didn't understand the game. There are 6 numbers plus a Free ball. If you get 5 winning numbers and the Free ball you get $52,000 which is $1,000 a week for one year. If you get the first 6 numbers, you win for Life. Although it doesn't make sense to me, this

Some lottery winners missing their jackpots
Although people on this board always say don't tell anyone when you win this article is why I think it's important to trust at least one person. I mean, what if I put the ticket in a safe deposit box and while I was making plans to move, got into an accident? It would sit nobody would know. That is a good idea. I am not so paranoid that I would keep it a complete secret when I won. When I win, my mom and my three sisters will know. I won't be telling a bunch of other people of course, b

N.D. Lottery wrestles with credit card buying options
LuckyLilly writes: I just wanted to make the point that just because someone chooses to charge an item on their credit card doesn't mean they're running up debt. I totally agree, Lilly. I think you misunderstood me. I wrote that comment tongue-in-cheek in response to Mr. Brooks in the article. I was really saying that I don't like people telling me what I can or cannot do with my money, credit card, body... Yes, there are many people who need guidance and protection from their own bad habi
