Probably to encourage additional purchases (thus revenues) by having more lower tier winning tickets in the prize pool. I think most people who win lower tier prizes just purchase more tickets. While I would hate to win anything less than the face value of a ticket, I guess it beats not winning at all.

If you go back 63 drawings instead of just 41 when the 5/75+1/15 matrix started then all the numbers except 61 and 68 have come up. You'll want as much history as you can get to pick your pool. Good luck!

I don't buy more tickets unless the jackpot is really high. I only buy Powerball and Megamillions on my own when it's over $100 million, I concentrate on Easy 5 and Louisiana Lotto even though the prizes are smaller, the odds are better. I also have a lottery pool that buys Powerball, Lotto, and MegaMillions, which only costs me $4 every 2 weeks, so I have the games covered there too.

On the last big PB, the guy running our pool emailed us pics of the tickets then flew to LA. Joking he said we might not see him if we win. I told him no problem, i'll just kidnap your mom.

Subsetting the Pool takes care of all the above parameters, you don't need to find HHH, LHL, EEO etc, is inherent if you chose the right Assumption, say the NTh variable, where variable could be limit of N. The LFL series is doing well. I noticed they re-ordered another batch for the $1 game - added one top prize + corresponding lower tier prizes (6,000,000 additional tickets to the game pool).

How Much Money Do You Spend Playing the Lottery in a Week?Reply
I spend $4-$7 a week depending. I don't play Powerball or MegaMillions myself anymore unless the jackpot breaks $100 million. However, I do have a lottery pool that's $4 every 2 weeks($2/week) that plays Powerball, Lotto, and MegaMillions. We've probably spent more than we have won, but we keep trying.

I've cut back on both games, mainly to save money. I only play them on my own when the jackpots get above $100 million. I'm also running a pool at work in which we play, Megamillions, Powerball, and Lotto, so I still get to play every drawing, just if we win it will be shared with others.

$247 MILLION: Huge Powerball lottery jackpot set for SaturdayReply
I agree with everyone else that's saying there's not really enough to get excited about. We had a pool at the job for when the jackpot was above 100 mil. Now we've changed it to when the Jackpot is over 300 mill then we'll play. There's about 50 of us so we won't be rolling in the dough but it will put a smile on our faces.

In January I spent $24 on PB and won nothing, and I spent $93 for the work pool on PB and won back $8. So by the time I spend $90 I'll probably have won $8 or $10 bucks. I think it's a toss up.
