MEGA MILLIONS JACKPOT SOARS TO $636 MILLION
Why is whether or not they anounced an increase relevant? If they promise an annuity value and come up short they're on the hook if somebody actually wants the annuity. Otherwise the jackpot, whether as cash or annuity, is determined by how much money is in the jackpot prize pool, and that's a simple function of how many tickets are sold. Assuming the sales figures are correct, that puts the final jackpot modestly higher than the advertised amount.

MEGA MILLIONS JACKPOT SOARS TO $636 MILLION
I almost wouldn't want to win tonight. There's just too many onlookers, I'd rather have a large pool win and then get a win 3-4 draws later.

Lotto-winning coworkers' advice for $400M Mega Millions jackpot
I've been running a lottery pool in my office for around 10 years now so this story gives me hope. The best we've done is around $100 in one round, but never a jackpot level prize. We have 11 people and we buy a mix of Powerball, Lotto, and MegaMillions tickets, with the occasional Millionaire Raffle ticket when that game is on. Maybe tomorrow will will be our night.

if invited to join a lottery pool at work: would you or not?
Before I retired I was a member of a pool at work and we came with in one number of winning the state lottery three times. Each time we matched 5of6 was a problem of who would collect the prize and pay the taxes at the end of the year because no taxes was taken out of prizes less than $5K and since we all was working a lot of over time who ever got stuck with the taxes was going to be in the 30%+ bracket. We worked it out by randomly picking one the member who had a student in college who

Positive: winners get the share equally, more people happy is a great thing Positive: luck may struck better with pool play than single Minus: if win just one million, the bigger the pool size the more people swim (smaller lum sum). Minus: going through hassle of getting sued, or difficulty in getting the share when judges decided to withhold the pot. I vote yes, however.
