To all Lottery Post-ers:
annuity, thanks for the advice but i would rather sit on the couch and watch my wife work harder than she has to. i am a user and a loser. you see, i have a good thing going by making my wife go thru this. don't tell her or she might catch on. i am all about the free ride and you are the first to catch me at it. dang.you have no idea about my life. you know what is funny, your comments don't even make me mad. i think it is rather entertaining to watch you continue to open your un-informed big

New Powerball info available
On the powerball website, it says that among the new rules:Power Play Option Drops The 1 But if the power play multiplies your winnings if you get the power play number right, what is the point of paying an extra amount for power play 1 if any amount multiplied by 1 is that same amount anyway? Not only that but the New Match 5 feature is created where the prize pool is divided among those who match 5 numbers. But in order to receive a share of the prize pool, can ANY 5 numbers be matched (4 wh

New Powerball info available
CashONLY: I don't necessarily agree with your position that Powerball has better low-tier prizes. They are certainly different, but not better. You can say that technically, this prize is better than that, but the bottom line is that people play the game to win the jackpot, not $2 or $3.Powerball is attempting to increase the perceived size of its jackpot by raising the annuity period. This has the direct effect of LOWERING the cash value. Mega Millions, on the other hand, always has a great

Lottery player/winner advice ?
it is interesting that it wasn't too long ago that people even started to consider getting financial advice before running down to their local lottery hdqtr's to collect their cardboard check. most past winners did just that ( i want my money NOW). a few lottery states are actually advising winners to get advice before collecting. they didn't use to do that before.people that didn't seek advice before collecting were ignorant of the implications of an annuity estate tax. it seems that until

Lottery player/winner advice ?
Can we get back to the original post and the article in which the comments were referred, please? The original post mentioned that lump sum is better than annuities doled out by the state. THAT, and several other posts, is not the issue from the article. In fact, the article stated, and I quote, again, From a financial standpoint, it's better to have it and invest it. That plainly advocates lump sum, not state annuity. The point Haisman was trying to get across was that there are people w

TX winner a potential loser
okay lets say a the worst you win the 10million annuity... 5million in cash i believe the tax rate including federal and state and local here in ohio would be around 47.5% where i am at. Federal tax is around 37 to 39 percent maxed right now.. . if you took that cash instantly without defering any of the taxes for 25 years (most you can defer taxes on lotto winnings legaly for federal taxes) you would still be recieving a check for around 2.5million to 2.75million. lets say you spend it down

Hello everyone
I've been reading all the posts (past and present) aboutthe Pros and Cons of choosing an annuity. You all must not have family. Because you're talking like the money would never be split any further after Uncle Sam and your state gets their chunk of your change. What about the million that your siblings will ask for? What about your parents, assuming their still living? And let's not forget those with grown children... and the grandchildren. All these people/relatives will have their hands out.

Hello everyone
Todd, Patrick et al,Thanks for the welcome.. May we all win big one day! (just not all the same day :) )Patrick: Not to sound rude, but reading through past posts from yourself and other members,I already understand you don't like MA's millions or megabucks.. What I'm looking for is WHY..Why do you feel that lump sum is better than annuity? For the record, I'm 27 so I would hope that 26 years from now will still see me breathing.. Besides that age factor, do you see anything else?I have always t
