Can MM & PB Start Being Honest? Must this farce continue?
in that it makes sense for them to advertise the aunnitized jackpot, and give you a check for the annuitiized amount even though that's not what you're gonna get.
If you're talking about deducting Federal and State taxes, I thought a smart guy like you (Jimmy4164 thinks you are smart) knew the lottery commissions are required by Federal and State law to deduct taxes.
It also makes sense for a guy who accidentally hit and badly injured an old lady at night to drive away as fast as possib

N.J. man claims Mega Millions jackpot
Apparently it's lucky to be a guy named Joe from Tinton Falls, N.J.
For the second time in just 14 months, a Joe who lives in the Monmouth County town (population 18,000) has stepped forward to collect a major lottery jackpot.
On Thursday, Giuseppe Joe Garofalo claimed his half of the $198 annuity jackpot from last Friday's Mega Millions drawing. He bought his ticket at Kwik Farms in the Monmouth County town.
The other winning ticket was sold in Farmville, Va., a rural town west of Rich

$181 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot ramps up
Maybe it's the years and years of bull$hitting people by advertising annuity values, but you apparently don't recognize reality, even when it's biting you in the ass. The OP was referring to the increases after the advertised jackpot reaches $100 million, and it's extremely clear that MM blows PB out of the water.
Here's what those increases really look like:
MM @ $108 PB @ $110
+ $19 million + $17 million
+ $21 million + $17 million
+ $23 million + $15 million
+ $29 million +

NY Scratch-off Discussion
im going to play about seven $10 tickets in NJ today, because i have a few extra bucks to spend. the ones i always go for are the $700,000 top prize, because its never annuity if you win it. theres about 1 out of 3 remaining and the 2 games are pretty old, so who knows. the only good thing about NJ ticks are that the website updates exactly how many tickets are outstanding and how many winners left for the THREE top prizes, not just the top prize.
the funny thing is this.
if you win a $1mi

Tax Strategies For Lottery Winners - Lump Sum vs Installments
Someone here on LP (I'm sorry I forget who) has or had a signature, You can always buy a better anuity .
I think that's pretty good info, the state or the MUSL doesn' have making sure you get the best deal in mind.
There's good info in socalgal's OP but it sounds to me like that CPA can't get outside the box in their thinking.
For one thing, there have been too many instances where a jackpot winner takes an annuity and later on is approached by or they go to one of those companies that

Annuity or Cash??
I look at it this way:
How much is the annuity?
That said, could you handle $200,000? One Million?
If someone handed you even $100,000 today would you be better off?
How old are you?
Would you be able to make ends meet with an annual annuity payment?
Do you really need; let's say 50 million dollars RIGHT NOW?
WHY?
If you are over 40 take the cash, if under 40, take the annuity.

First time player wins $5 million lottery jackpot
The $5M would be with the Lottery investing in whatever, so the 2.x with cash option, and then taxes.
The $2.8M or so is what the total sales are for this jackpot so far MINUS the takeout (what the Lottery
uses for their costs or Education etc.), and then out of that is about 1/3 in taxes. The $5M is the advertised
*annuity* jackpot meaning over years it's invested and paid out slowly so the remaining balance earns
interest. The rule of thumb is, whatever the Annuity prize is ( The j
