Bill would allow Texas Lottery winners to pay for anonymity
So if I won the next jackpot, they'd want $3m to keep my name private? I think I'd prefer to just hire an attorney for a fraction of that and claim via a trust or LLC. My name would still be discoverable via an open records request, but at least I would still be fairly anonymous and would have those extra millions.
I don't like it, but I really don't think this is that terrible, simply because the winnings currently aren't taxed on the state level and it's on par with those states that do hav

It's time the lottery needs to stop releasing a person name and picture when a big win is won!
Yo, CT
I went to Florida last week and on the way stopped in Delaware and bought advanced draw PB.
Since there was no winner in Delaware you know I did'nt win, but still have more draws left.
Had.nt bought PB in quite awhile, but since it was in record territory and I was in anonymous territory I figure why not ?
Also bought MM and something called Hot Lotto while I was there.

What easy solution is there for someone who has almost nothing in the bank account
If you're really that hard up all you really need is enough for a security deposit and a few months rent for a new place to live. If you've got several million dollars worth of collateral and a bank still considers you too much of a risk for a loan of just 5 grand you shouldn't be playing the lottery anyway.
Just because a person is their own worst enemy doesn't mean claiming anonymously shouldn't be an o

MUSL employee arrested in Hot Lotto jackpot mystery
If Crawford Shaw read some LP member's opinion, he probably assumed it was someone just trying to collect anonymously.
He allegedly used friends in Texas, one of which was a lawyer, to contact a Canadian man about claiming the prize because the winner wanted to remain anonymous.
We know Shaw was involved because he tried to validate the ticket on behalf of Hexam Investments Ltd., but proving he was helping Tipton commit two counts of fraud will be almost impossible. There is the question i

Chinese lottery winner claims jackpot in bear costume
HaveABall, dallascowboyfan,
There was a woman in Illinois that won a big jackpot, I think it was Mega Millions. She was a pharmacist and very concerned that if she showed up for the necessary press conference not disguised a lot of people would be hitting her with bogus malpractice suits.
So they let her go to a professional make up artist and she showed up as HaveABall desribed. I don't know if they still allow it or changed the rule because of her.
I have a Dr. Zaius costume ready jus

Iowa Lottery still hunting mystery Hot Lotto winner [video]
What kind of past-due taxes, alimony or child support could you possibly owe that would make you pass on collecting that much money? Whoever sent he lawyer had the option of identifying themselves in order to collect the money, so they must have had a reason for not wanting the lottery to know who they were that goes well beyond losing some of the money to a debt. The only possibilities I see are that the person who bought the ticket was prohibited from winning because they or close family work

Powerball: Quick Picks or Pick Your Own Numbers?
I know where you are coming from because I've been running and office pool for several years. It is a lot of work to keep track of everything.
In my pool, we play Powerball, MegaMillions, and Louisiana Lotto. We've also played our state's Millionaire Raffle game when it was running. No big wins yet, but we keep trying.
The numbers we play are a mix of quickpicks and numbers we all selected. We pay in every 2 weeks on payday, and I buy multidraw tickets that cover the next 4 drawings

For Fun: Should your State Lottery enforce a rule that as a JP winner you must face the cameras..
No,no and no. Why would you assume that fear of one's life or the safety of family members is just a cover for not wanting to go in front of a camera. Let me dissuade you of that notion. I've been talking in front of large audiences for YEARS. Very rarely does a microphone put me ill at ease, and I am for claiming anonymously. I guarantee that most people who call into CSPAN etc don't know that they sound like an idiot, so fear of sounding stupid isn't it. Plus many states don't require a press

Powerball
+1
It actually doesn't matter the size of the jackpot....they will still come for you. As soon as there is a winner, they submit an open records request for the contact information (anonymous states are an exception of course). Most of those who request this are investment groups, banks, etc. The other majority of requests come from charities. You will have at least 10 different entities snatch your info.
They don't discriminate by person or prize size...they chase it all. There's nothing
