Unclaimed lottery winnings
I read an article recently that said 12% of lottery winnings are never claimed. The unclaimed money is kept by the lottery.
So when a lottery says that lottery players have won 40% of the lottery money, since 12% of that 40% is never claimed, doesn't that mean only about 35% (40% minus [12% of 40%]) of the lottery money is actually returned to the lottery players?
It seems to me that the only fair thing for them to do is to put that money back into the jackpots.

Interest on Money?
Interesting question. I would like to know also. I doubt it was in a bank in the traditional sense. There has to be some institute that deals in those big buck numbers, just like there are lawyers who only deal with multi-millionaires.
I read about a woman lawyer, from NH, named Sally H. Mulhern. She, and her husband, handled the estate planning of a lottery winner. The article didn't say how much the winner was making in profit, but it was big time. I kept her paper trail, just inc

Record Powerball lottery won by one Nebraskan
Congratulate the RNG in the lottery terminal, that's what really picked the numbers... plus the exact timing of the purchaser who said at some very exact time 5 quick picks please and the clerk who at an exact time hit the button on the machine. I do feel the store clerk deserves a decent tip being they hit the button at exactly the right time. If the purchaser had picked their own numbers then the clerk would have deserved 0.
Question, is there a legal clause somewhere that says any sto

$13m Lotto winner having trouble sleeping
It's 2 in the morning and I'm worried I won't be able to get up in a few hours for a meeting. So I signed onto this board and saw this article. Guess what? I was going to write the same thing you did. Although financial worries are a big factor, I wouldn't say they are the main cause for me. I get job offers and then I'm worried I won't be able to travel or sleep in a hotel or make it through the training because I collapse from exhaustion or my brain turns to mush after nights with no sleep. Mass. Lottery dispute takes bizarre turn
Thank you for your answers.
Seems from the first article that it became lost only after it was learned that it was a large dollar winner ... if someone wants to split hairs about timing to claim as a loss rather than part of a discard batch.
However, that's for the courts to decide and will be interesting as to the outcome. Thanks again!!

Woman 'hiding lottery win from husband'
I certainly agree with you, DD......
As far as the article, this lady was apparently trying to do the right thing by everyone in her family. Because of this, everyone has prospered in some kind of way by the money, even though she kept it secret.
I wonder what people would say if she had divorced his butt after she had received the money.....would the topic of religion still be brought up?

Woman 'hiding lottery win from husband'
Pardon me, I was going to comment on this article, but after reading the posts, I am honestly confused about what is being talked about!
I'll just leave this one alone; not interested in offending anyone.

Is any State Run Lottery Honest?
After reading about the man going to trial in Indiana for rigging the scratch off, I paused to wonder why is he the only one getting caught? Scientific games actually knew where the winning tickets where. The tickests have serial numbers and are tracked. The following taken from the news article I read in the News section. How it happenedA trucker called in and said he thought he had a winning ticket in the $2 million game but had lost it. He also couldn't remember at which of about 40 st

Excel and leading zeros
I don't use Excel but have seen this mentioned a few times here at Lottery Post. The fact that Excel won't display leading zeros. So a pick 3 number such as 012 will only show up as 12.This is an excerpt from the MS article about it. Hope this helps the Excel users that didn't know how to fix it.Typing a Value with Leading ZerosBecause leading zeros are insignificant digits, Microsoft Excel omits them when you type a number, such as 00023, in a cell. In this case, Microsoft Excel applies the
