Powerball lottery states report brisk sales for huge jackpot
A couple from New Jersey won Powerball in PA either last year, or the year before. The article stated they paid no state income taxes in either state.I personnaly had to declare winnings on my federal form, and in New Jersey, the year before last. Forgot the 10XX number for gambling, and too lazy to look it up; however, it did not reference the type of gambling or where I won. All New Jersey wanted to know was the amount I won. There is no slot for horse racing, dog racing, or anything else. The

Powerball lottery states report brisk sales for huge jackpot
Not necessarily. I went to the link on usamega.com that was referenced in the article and saw the state by state breakdown of what the winner would get after taxes. One thing I noticed was several of the states were marked No State Tax on Lottery Prizes which to me implies the state either has no state income tax at all or does not charge state income tax on lottery winnings. In the case of tickets purchased in these states, the state gets nothing in taxes if a lottery winner from any state

How much could you give away?
That was a very interesting article. We already have a Unified Credit Trust. Anyone with more than $600,000 in net assets should have one. (Sure it goes up to every year...but in 2010, it reverts to the old balance of $600,000.) It also protects your assets for your children, should you pass away and your spouse decides to marry a sponge bob or betty . As for how much I would give away, the minimum to established charities would be 10%. We already have several charities that we do

New Jersey Lottery
I recently contacted the NJL to question whether one could switch cash/annuity options, after the draw. Here is their response. From: Public Info <Publicinfo@lottery.state.nj.us>To: Not gonna happen!Subject: RE: Mega Millions - Cash or AnnuityDate: Thursday, September 29, 2005 10:17 AMShould you hold the winning ticket and it has been purchased as anannuity ticket, the NJ Lottery will immediately purchase the annuity atthe rate available. New System - Win Pick 3 daily
Couple of things. If you've ever taken the time to examine the system where if you get one digit correct you are guaranteed a win, it is your digit combined with all other possible pairs. You either pick the correct digit or not, it isn't BS it is a fact. What makes the system somewhat more then that, is the two other numbers you don't pick provide a certain percentage of overlap, so if you are playing at the nameless place that provides a greater return on investment, it becomes possible to pl

Indiana Lottery has limit for Pick 3 and Pick 4 Numbers
From the article: Let's say this afternoon 10,000 people went out and bet 1134 because someone kept pitching that number in a newspaper column, and they all won. The total prize payout would be $50 million. That would be a staggering hit for the lottery, enough to break the bank, so to speak. It would amount to one quarter of the profits that the lottery makes in an entire year. This last statement would imply that Hoosier Lottery profits hover in the neighborhood of $200M per year. Nothing coul

How to pick a winning scratch off
Dear Jagcatfan: I read your article the other day and decided to try it out. I've always said that there is a way to pick scratch of tickets better than just selecting the first one. So with that said, I went to a variety store and picked a Bingo Ticket for $3. The ticket Number was 004. Guess what, I won $3. Big deal you say...well let me continue on. Today(August 2/05) I went to a different store and purchased 5 'Money Bags' scratch off and guess what...I won on 142 144 146 ticket numbers for

Disabled players sue Virginia Lottery
In regards to the rules and regulations as they apply to ADA access, one tends to over look one huge and critical issue. Those business's whose structure existed prior to enactment of ADA regulations are exempt up to and until a modification to such structure is made. Therefore, those stores, if they are older then the ADA rules, they are, in fact compliant with ADA regulations. A little fact that is seldom acknowledged by anyone.I do not claim to fully understand all the rules and regulations,

Disabled players sue Virginia Lottery
True they probably did go around until they found a places that weren't compliant. As the article states they went around on the very day the disability act was in acted found some places not compliant and did something about it.Every state has activists that do that. for all kinds of causes. On another note i was in a wheel chair for a summer about two years ago. I encountered numerous times when while in that chair i couldn't gain access to many places i needed to or would liked to have went. N

Should we feel stupid playing the lotto?
I'm finding that in my area that the homes are selling for substantially more than what the homes would rent for, perhaps 50 to 100% above what the equivalent units are being leased. Either the price of the homes need to drop, the rents have to start increasing at much faster rates, or prices have to stagnate for a long period of time, perhaps 10-15 years to allow 4% annual rent increases to catch up. In addition, the area is building far more homes than there are families who want a home to liv
