Now you know why governments support lotteries. They take 50% off the top for running the games and when they pay the other 50% out in prizes they get 30% of that in taxes. 65%-70% of every dollar spent and some politicians have suggested an additional 5% sale tax so that the losers don't get away tax free.RJOh

Ohio lottery popularity declined when the State decided to limit the amount that one ticket could win to $20M. They reversed that decision some months later but by then it was too late, other games that payed more had taken the lead and Ohio tickets sales were down. Ohio had to join one of the multi-state games to get ticket sales up again.
