What would you do if you had the winning lottery ticket BUT.
Ok good points so far.......will try to research further....
very interested in proxy claimaints to achieve anonymity.....
....interested in tax problems......
....since I am a paranoid penny pinching miser, I want to get the most bang for my buck....
...If anonymous trusts (possibly offered by my state) are allowed how do you program said trust to payout? and is that already PRE-programmed, to achieve maximum exposure...
that is something i will research here.

Would you travel to an "anonymous" state JUST to buy lottery tickets?
I voted for the choice within one hour but then changed my mind. I don't know if, at almost $3 a gallon, it would be worth the expense, considering the odds. I can't change my vote now, so I guess that's my final answer. LOL I understand what you mean about the importance of remaining anonymous, but I'd learn to deal with the problems associated with winning a lottery rather than travel very far. If I moved quietly away from this neighborhood, nobody would really know me anyway. I know GA

Talking about some serious money:

$700 x 365 = $36,400/yr
Talk to the folks at Gamblers Anonymous to educate yourself as to what kind of help is available for people with a gambling problem.

Who is the first person you would tell after you win?
Here's another vote for telling the 2 cats first.
Second for me would be tax attorney
Third probably another attorney
I don't have family and would never tell my relatives. I'm convinced there's a way to remain anonymous here, and if so, I probably wouldn't tell friends either but there's a possibility I'd tell my closest friend. He won't ask for money (I don't think) and can keep his mouth shut. If others asked how I can afford to live in nice homes etc. I'd just say I made some go

numbers don't lie
Floyd,
I wasn't saying that either of us were deceiving people, just that your example was a little more deceptive than mine.
Whether the chances of winning the lottery are expressed as 1 in 87,855 or 0.0014%, it's the same thing.
I agree and that's why Pennsylvania will advertise that each ticket in their 4th of July Raffle has a 1 in 80 chance of winning without mentioning each winning ticket only represents 1.24% of all the tickets sold.
People seem to be more influenced by jac

You got your jackpot money. Would you change/do things differently?
If I ever won the big one, the only problem I would have is to keep
a perspective on things, like the value of a dollar.
The only other thing I would think about is being totally anonymous.
Although they say this is hard to achieve, I figure having a body guard
at a grocery store is kinda rediculous.

Mega Millions: How long to recieve jackpot?
Justx said: In Florida they will run a criminal background check and also a credit check to see if the winner owes the state money (such as property taxes, unpaid traffic tickets, child support) but then the jackpot is paid pretty quickly.
That makes sense because that is part of state Lottery codes but if a person was there to claim their winnings when the office opened, all that information could be gathered before lunch time. However unless it's part of the state lottery code, they are n

Why it is important to remain anonymous
The money that comes from a big jackpot makes you a more desirable target, but it isn't the money that makes you an easier target. Most of the problems described happened to people who were lottery winners rather than to people because they were lottery winners. If you live in or only a few miles from Delaware or another state that allows you to remain anonymous that's great, but it's simply not worht the bother of driving more than a few miles to buy your tickets.
As far as concealing a wi

Mega Millions: How long to recieve jackpot?
There are many threads on several of these subjects, especially anonymity, so you might want to use the search feature on Lottery Post.
As the other members already wrote, every state has different rules. If you are not in one of those that protect your right to remain anonymous, the dog and pony show you mentioned is usually part of the deal.
Like you, I never expect to win, but I always hope I will. I don't currently play MM or PB, but the process is still pretty much the same for s

the whitaker rule--for all jackpot winners
Rundown99, I agree that telling everyone about your millions is stupid, but how can anyone remain anonymous from the government?
I take that back (the remark about letting people know you're rich) because a lot of people have millions and we read about them all the time. They're just careful about how they invest it and spend it and hire the right people to manage it. Even billionaires who have their pictures plastered all over the news don't have the problems Whittaker has. It's all come
