My friend had shoe boxes full of losing lottery tickets he brought to an audit last year to write off as losses. The IRS agent disallowed the losing tickets saying 'you could pick them from garbage cans' ....... the agent asked for RECEIPTS proving he bought the tickets. Long story short - read the IRS rules for deductions from winnings. He wound up paying a lot because he could not prove he bought any. Lot of minorities involved in those frauds for some reason. Some of the fraudulent clerks probably blame it on ignorance of the process or the language barrier. The way things are going in 50 years the Patel clan will not be in the minority. On the other side of of the coin, I know of four stores within 10 miles that are owned and operated by Asians or Middle Easterners, but never heard any of them accused of lottery fraud.

I believe in free speech but dayum! That was one of the most racist comments I have ever seen on Lp. Thank Goodness that we all know that Todd does not condone such nonsene so I will stay as a member, but shame on you! There is no way for you to know if Patel is a minority. Even if he is, so what? You hit the nail on the head. But I would say they did an EXCEEDINGLY rather poor job of advertising it . Its not the first time. They did a poor job of advertising one of their last promotion where that random QP that was randomly selected, was randomly revealed to random patrons, and most likely you did not know you would get it, but could get, was more likely than not, stolen by your friendly neighborhood Patel.

I find it interesting that a lot of Mom Pop type of retailers are owned by people of Indian origin - Patel . However, I personally think that the scams are by random individuals or small groups of people [2 -6 people], not highly orchestrated by organized crime, and certainly not by the state lottery itself. Let's just sat a bank investigator knew that many people trying to run banking scams such as check kiting schemes and hanging bad paper use the name I.M. Rich. So they have their staff take a really close look at any activity by people using that name. Then some left leaning oh so politically correct clown says that's a really 'racist' thing to do. There have been quite a few stories about lottery scams here on LP and the name Patel comes up over and over.
