Florida Gov. suggests selling the lottery
Florida is actually a pretty good state to run a case study on this issue. Several years back, they were allowed to raise payouts and had the expected increase in both sales and overall profit dollars as a result. This lottery has historically been run very bureaucratically - there is measurable room for efficiency improvements. UNless they have changes, I believe the bulk of lottery proceeds have historically been invested in bonds, not direct expenditures of funds. That may hav

Tennessee Lottery glitch shuts out players
They couldn't possibly have tested the drawings and gotten multiple (let alone a single) doubles. The statement said the programmer hit u for unique instead of r for repeat. If this is a factual statement and this really is what happened, then it is absolutely impossible for a test drawing to have produced a repeat number. We are suppossed to believe that a highly paid, professional programmer...who presumably does this for a living...made a fundamental mistake and simply hit the wrong

Where to put the money?
The FDIC insurance you are talking about only protects you if that banking institution goes under for the amount of $100,000. Not true. All of the people who keep saying that FDIC insures a maximum of $100,000 are incorrect. You can have much more money in the same bank and still be covered by FDIC, although FDIC isn't failproof either. IMHO mutual funds are risky and they can be managed poorly. When I owned some funds, I made as much as 125% in one year and then lost 60% the next

Why states go RNG drawings
Excellent points, I agree. I think your conclusion is dead-on, and there are definitely people who will either stop playing, or who will play less. These lottery directors in large part are not people who get their ideas from lottery players. They get their ideas from (a) people who report to them and (b) the systems vendors. If you listened to both those types of people all the time, you would start to believe that computerized drawings are great too. I have listened to the sales pit

Paranoid or Prudent?
The pick 3 and 4 drawing don't have a cap large enough for a lottery personal to rig a drawing. The person rigging the game has too much to lose. Besides that it would take a group of people or more to pull off such a drawing. The stakes are to high for those particular individuals. Most lottery personal and their immediate family members can't even play the games in many states. This rigging theory has been discussed many times. Do a search on this if you care to read the hundreds of co

Oklahoma couple claims $106M Powerball lottery jackpot
Do you have any idea how much $35 million really is? Obviously this couple doesn't, nor do they realize what that kind of money can buy. I don't care how much I liked my job before, in my case I played the lottery to GET OUT of it and do something more productive for myself. Especially at that age, you would think he would jump at the chance. I am not saying they have to run and blow all kinds of money, but to continue being a wage-slave with that kind of cash is just pure insanity. Especiall

Only 1 day left to claim $19M N.J. Lottery jackpot
Sounds like Alannis lyrics.. when I had 5 of 5 I found it 2 weeks later but for such a relatively small prize there would have been very little mentioned about it if I had not found it for a year. The reason this ticket is still unclaimed is most likely due to there being hardly any media coverage. 1010WINS maybe mentioned it, but nothing on the TV news so far. The person who played is probably not a Lottery Post member or reader. Other theories I have is that the missing ticket: - may have b

A Model for What to do with the Jackpot You just Won
OldSchoolPA writes: If you're not making MORE money, then you are losing money...literally and to inflation. I actually don't think age is the sole determining factor in investing style I agree completely that if you are not making more money, you are indeed losing. I never said not to invest your money wisely. Imagine having $10 million just making an average of 8%. That's $800,000 a year!! That money also earns interest, since it is compounded. However, even if you only put $

Grandma's lottery ticket detour pays off
Don't apologize for spelling errors, Old School, although you and I have those concerns in common! Many members here who are intelligent often write your instead of you're' or much worse (like to instead of too or then instead of than.) Those are some of the most common mistakes. I notice it all the time, but I wouldn't want someone to go through my posts and point out all of my errors, because I'm sure there are more than I realize. The word it's (it is) instead of its is my biggest p
