Wisconsin bill allowing anonymity for lottery winners heading to committee
A bill that would allow lottery winners to remain anonymous in Wisconsin will go before a State Assembly committee next week. The privacy act was introduced by Speaker Robin Vos the same day that a Milwaukee-area man claimed a $768 million Powerball prize this spring. Voss says requiring winners to be identified opens them up to possible fraud and takes away their right to privacy. Manuel Franco, a 24-year-old New Berlin man, claimed the prize back in March and during his press conference

Michigan: 6/1 - 6/30/2019
LOL! - I'm sometimes paranoid myself... I freakin' had 235.... I wasn't expecting a double this evening, because this was the 3rd double in the evening, and 4th total since Sunday (929 fell Monday's Midday)... I need to cut back a bit, because not counting my 2 straight hits ($625) this month, I'm down about $800, and with my wins, that totals $1,425.... Yes, that's foolish, and I need to lower my wages BIG TIME! Premo ------ Broke A$$ .... anyone got the Gambler's Anonymous hotline?

Thinking of going off the grid after winning the lottery? Not so fast
Either the Times as a whole or an editor and the reporter(s) who wrote the story seem to be confused about what going off the grid means. They seem to be confused about other things, too. You can't buy a car in cash and avoid disclosing who you are The car has to be registered and it has to be clear who owns it, so the car dealer obviously needs the name of the owner, which isn't necessarily the buyer, for the bill of sale. That owner can be an LLC or a trust, so the name the dealer gets

How well do you think you could hide a lottery win from relatives?
Good move Artist. Slightly reminiscent of telling a panhandler you'd take them to lunch and then they start bobbing and weaving. The Las Vegas Review Journal had a reporter go tell several panhandlers he'd give them $50 (this was the 1980s) for about a half-hours work in his garage. Every one of them told him they couldn't afford to leave 'their corner'. On one of TLC's lottery programs a woman who had won a nice jackpot said she shared it with family, very generously. She then expla

What would you do if you won a $300 mil jackpot?
Former UK basketball player Antoine Walker lost around $100 million he earned playing in the NBA so add another poster boy for making bad monetary decisions. What would you do? After changing my underwear, I'd sign the back of the ticket, call lottery headquarters and get the ticket validated. But what about talking to a tax lawyer first or hiring a team of financial advisers ? Regardless what a brother-in-law tax expert says, a set rate Federal and any state taxes will be deducted o

Iowa single mom claims half of $687.8 million Powerball lottery jackpot
My advice to future winners. Slow down. Place your ticket inside either a fireproof safe or a bank's safe deposit box. A safe box. Hire a Trust Estate Attorney to create a living revocable trust. You will also need an LLC. Limited Liability Company. Plus personal umbrella insurance coverage is also known as excess liability coverage. Do some research and learn your State's anonymous policy. Personally, I will give the Press a written statement which will include my history

If a dual (UK/USA) citizen wins the Euro Jackpot?
UK does not tax lottery winnings I've seen something that said UK residents aren't taxed. It may have just been sloppy reporting, but there's a chance that a prize that's won while living overseas might be taxed. The IRS considers lottery winnings taxable when you get the economic benefit of the prize. That doesn't happen until the lottery validates the ticket as a winner, and possibly even later than that, but even if you move to Mars it won't help. The income from the prize will still

A Leelanau County woman plans to spruce up her home after winning $500,000 playing the Michigan Lottery's Platinum Wild Time instant game.
