US House votes to kill Internet gambling
I'll preface this post by saying that I have no respect for the New York times ongoing publishing of classified information which has compromised national security. I hope they are charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent the law provides. That being said here is a paragraph from one of their articles concerning lobbying groups pushing to get the internet gambling ban enacted. Logic prevails that they're at least partially correct although I read on a couple of conservative discussion s

CA Fantasy 5
Below is what I copied off the CA Lottery web site. Doesn't this mean computer drawings are honest and safe? I play Fantasy 5 all the time and I hope they aren't ripping me off! They do have jackpot winners quite a bit and I even picked 4 of 5 for $512 a few months ago with only buying 1 ticket. If computer drawings aren't honest then why are so many people winning? This is really confusing for me. Please let me know what you think of this! Thank you: Jim ---------------------------------

The Luck Factor
Thouhht maybe we could post stories like this - when I read it I thought good for him, and at the same time, where's the justice. This is from the Missouri lottery website: Retired Deputy Sheriff Wins $20,600 In Lottery Prizes A hankering for donuts brought a retired deputy sheriff a $20,000 windfall. Dru Preator, 43, of Hollister said he stopped in Casey s, 1835 S. Bus

Lottery draw witnesses
Seems to me the best evidence any lottery, New Mexico, anywhere, could give of an honest operation would show itself in an eagerness, a yearning for public scrutiny. Go to the NM lottery site and try to figure out where the draws are held. Try to discover where the machines are housed, what 'secure' environment and how that security is maintained. They tell when the draws are held, and they tell, afterward, what numbers they claim the computer spit out. Seems to me the default position

Winning a lottery jackpot can't guarantee happiness
My mission statement this week is to say NO to myself! 1: No , I will not have a loosing ticket 2: No I will do better at claiming my prize early and under good advice 3 Under NO circusmstances will I allow my negativity to deter my goal to gain financial security. 4: No I will not give to two charitites if I win. I'll give to three :) And those charities already know who they are! 5: No I will not tempt fate by letting a person get in front of me in the lottery line! It could me

Michigan resident loses whopping $295,000 in lottery scams
I feel badly for anyone who is cheated by these maggots who prey on human weakness. But someone offering you an alternative to your investment portfolio is not a scam artist. A scam artist is someone who defrauds a person and unknowingly steals their money or makes false promises. The list of names you mentioned are often gathered from court records such as loans which include new mortgages and refinancing and other public information. Property tax records are also available to the public. If I

Lottery fever is alive and well in New Jersey
They call themselves the Coolers, based on the 2003 Las Vegas thriller The Cooler, starring William Macy. He plays a character who is hired in old-school casinos to subdue high rollers' action, until he falls in love. Unlike the movie, this group has not encountered Lady Luck and has yet to pinpoint its cooler. But that doesn't stop them from continuing their 15-year tradition of Thursday lottery lunches. It's no coincidence that Thursday just happens to be when the Pick 6 is drawn.

How do you claim a $267,000,000 prize?
Imagine you are as lucky as the guy in Michigan who won such an amount... How do you go about claiming this huge a prize? I mean can you imagine the security issues that immediately would come up to grab your attention? So, just like so many of us, I am interested to know what a proper, well thought out strategy would be. I mean, you don't walk up to the claiming office and just hand out your $267M ticket - the only document in existence that indicates you are the winner - to the first lotter

PA cash 5 going up...
Yes it is good enough to pay for a house, (in my case) but personally I would rather have a lifetime of checks. At least you know you will always be getting them, and can't spend them all in one shot. I don't have a problem with winning $250,000, but cash_only is trying to make another invalid comparison simply to further express his discourse for something that has been beaten to death long ago, and is nothing more than age-old, tiring rhetoric. I am assuming though that he is over 50 or 60

Tax on interest question
That was a great post again, thanks. As I write this, short-term CD's and bonds are paying a higher yield than their long-term counterparts, such as stocks, for example. I think CD's has always been the way I would want to go for their security alone, as I said in another thread I do not plan on blowing a ton of money so I do not need to earn a ton. Depending on the jackpot size, the interest of 4%, or even 3% on a million or two would far exceed my goals. $10 million or more would simply b
