$260 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot surges
That they added $60 million after the previous $44 million increase definitely suggests that they were pretty close. If sales warranted an increase of $6 million it would mean they were following a $50 million increase with a $54 million increase. That seems far more cautious than necessary, given that any number over 300 probably guarantees very good sales.
FWIW, snip is reporting sales of $90 million. That would mean 45 million tickets, and almost $30 million for the cash jackpot. Given the

When was the last time you saw a multi-state lottery jackpot...
I think it was a mistake to change ticket prices.
I think it was a good decision for the bottom line, and that's what it's about. The 5/16 $90 million drawing had sales of $28.536 million. The last comparable pre-increase drawing was for $91 million on 12/17, and that had sales of $28.355 million. That doesn't increase the bottom line by a meaningful amount, but they aren't losing money. Other drawings have had sales that are 10 to 15% higher than comparable pre-increase drawings. Statistic

Weak Powerball Sales?
As an Accountant, I say ticket sales are down, revenue and profits are up. Units do matter, because when you explain your year over year variances to management, units become part of the equation, otherwise how would you explain a 100% price increase with only a 50% revenue increase? What happens if number of ticket sales drop to less than 50% of previous levels, say even 50%? 1,000,000 tickets sold at $1 vs 500,000 tickets sold at $2 becomes a net $0 growth in revenue with a 100% price increase

$1.7 BILLION: Will Powerball create a Christmas billionaire?
I can't imagine that the actual increase for Wednesday won't be something bigger than the increase for Monday, and simply matching it would result in a final total of 1.745B. Last week sales for Wednesday were about 37% higher than sales for Monday jackpot, and the same 37% increase this time around would add about 73 million, so 1.815ish seems like a fairly safe bet.
Now that they had about that same increase I'm even more surprised that we never saw a bump yesterday. I think they really m

$1.7 BILLION: Will Powerball create a Christmas billionaire?
PB will claim they set a new record if the annuity is more than the current $2.04 billion record, but to beat the $997.6 million cash value of that jackpot the annuity needs to be 2.17B, assuming the interest rate doesn't change. The PB worksheet posted on Monday afternoon suggests that a rollover on Wednesday will give us a Saturday jackpot of about $2.11 billion, but I'm not sure the people behind that estimate really have a better idea than anyone else. They came up over $60 million short on

Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
Any guesses as to the next increase for the Measly Millions, should a rollover happen tomorrow night ?
Another $40 Million ??
Another $40M would bring it to $794M.
I bet they will go to at least $800M, that is a $46M increase. And that should unfold an even higher increase announced Tuesday night (if jackpot is not hit) for the following Friday (Fridays sales are larger than Tuesdays, so the increase leading to a Friday is significantly larger then the one leading to a Tuesday).

Mississippi men tried cashing in lottery ticket after gluing on the winning numbers, officials say
Adding Mississippi will increase the number of possible players by less than 1%. Even if they buy tickets at two or three times the average rate that will increase sales by less than 2 or 3%. If we call it an even 3% the current PB cash jackpot would be about $6 million higher, which is a nice chunk of change, but more likely we'd be looking at an extra $2 million after 10 weeks of rollovers.
Based on the current sales estimates a 3% increase in sales would reduce the chances of a rollover fr

$430 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot surges on rollover
Good point.
Maybe I'm still sleepy from my nap, but did MM announce if the minimum jackpot would increase? I think it will have to. $15 million starting won't justify the price increase. PB jumped to $40 million, just don't remember if it was prior to its price increase or not.
Later on Todd can run a story on how much the decrease in sales secondary to the price increase of MM...
