$320 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot goes through the roof
I will have my ticket for this drawing but only a few dollars. The jackpot when it reaches this level becomes more of a fantasy than usual, even though the odds remain the same. It's more money than most can comprehend and frankly more than anyone really needs. Most of the money would probably remain in the bank earning interest unless you just go out and blow it all, which would take some effort, unless you're buying art in the millions of dollars range. What would I do with the money? That

N.J. lottery winners would get one year of anonymity under bill sent to governor
New Jersey lottery winners would have the option of staying anonymous for one year under a bill that is now headed to Gov. Chris Christie's desk. The state Senate voted unanimously to pass the measure (A2982), which cleared the Assembly without opposition in December. Under current law, winners' identities are public information, and the state Lottery Commission can publicize their names, hometowns, prize winnings and photographs. Assemblyman John Burzichelli (D-Gloucester), a sponsor,

Who Was She?
I'm going to google some info on when the Wisconsin and Arizona lotteries started, I did this before, and, didn't find much, but, I'm going to do that again. It's possible those are states where the winners can be anonymous. That would be a good idea to just get a list of winners in both states ,and compare. The name of the booklet and tape is Let Go and Win . I picked this up off a radio show, I listened to years ago. It could be very few copies are in print. Might only be available by

Powerball jackpot a mixed blessing
I had people calling me at work begging for money and people sending faxes with letters and sob stories and I'm like, 'I do not know these people,' said Hayes. I was under so much stress, I thought I was going to explode. I'm not doubting that part of the story, but by granting the interview and saying That's my duty as an American, to pay taxes. That's not the problem. The problem is the amount! , her problems with people begging for money will continue. Basically she is saying she still h

How lottery winners spend their money
This. Expanding on #3: Remain as anonymous as your state will allow. As a single woman living alone, I would need that protection. (Well, that and my glock.) A series of trusts nested within each other may provide some, but get professional advice. Talk to a good tax lawyer and a financial planner first. Tell them you want to preserve the wealth for future generations and give cash to certain family members, but you want certain things for yourself. And ask if you can afford those certa

Jersey anonymity
I don't think they can force you to be anonymous. 1.get t-shirts made that say i'am a millionaire lotto winner 2. get the same phrase painted on the tailgate of your pick-up 3. put a add in the paper, just to make sure no one misses the ad, my newspaper sells an ad thats a sticker, that gets put on the front page of every copy, I'm sure you're paper does too. 4. put a real estate for sale type sign on your front lawn w/ the same phrase also.

Let"S Please...Stop The Madness
Relatives would be the main problem for some of us, and in my case I would have to cut myself off completely from them if they knew I had money. I have a sibling who wouldn't think twice about killing me if she thought it would get her an inheritance more quickly. I'd have to make certain she completely understood that she isn't in the will, and every few months fax her a copy of the page where it says that when I die she gets $1 to remind her why she's not killing me. And I still couldn't be co

Did the couple even consider calling a lawyer??
There is no difference if you claim the day after the drawing if you can't be anonymous. Like I wrote, it takes about 4 to 6 weeks for the money to be made available to you. You can make plans, talk to lawyers and get everything in order during the 4 to 6 weeks. What difference would it make if you get your phone turned off before your name has been released to the newspapers or after? Start the claims process in the morning and call the phone company to cancel your phone in the afternoon. No

NY brothers charged in plot to steal $5M New York Lottery ticket
Good shout out to Ronnie316!!!! The brothers said they'd be willing to take less money to avoid a news conference! Seriously? Who does that? As many members here on L.P. worried about remaining anonymous, would you take LESS MONEY just so your name would not get out there? I don't think so!!!! I'd ALL my money and forget about my name in the press!! Deal with it!!
