$530 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot increases on rollover
You know since PB was won I'm thinking that it reaches the full amount.
Its 2PM on Friday and they haven't bumped the advertised amount. What they have done is announced that after the $55 million increase advertised for this drawing a rollover will increase the advertised jackpot by $45 million. I haven't seen any figures, so maybe the last one topped out a bit higher than the advertised $475, but I thought the $55 million increase was a bit optimistic.

Cash4Life
I can understand not increasing the JP because neither the PowerPlay nor the Megaplier increase the JP, but they do increase the second place prize in MM and PB. So if they dont increase the 2nd place C4L prize, that stinks.
You'd think they'd do it in New York given that it borders on Jersey. If I was in Manhattan and wanted a ticket, I'd just whip across The Hudson and buy it in NJ! It's even easier to do if you live in Rockland County near the Jersey border. G5

$360 MILLION: Powerball jackpot surges on rollover
The currently advertised increase is about $55 million, which is a cash increase of a bit more than $37 million. Each ticket contributes almost 64 cents to the jackpot, so a cash increase of $37 million requires sales of about 58 million tickets. 58/175 is very close to 1/3.
There will be a lot of duplicate combinations sold, so figure the chances of a rollover are something better than 2 in 3.

$330 MILLION: Powerball jackpot quickly ramping up
Since Todd may be busy, I will attempt to explain this to you. Both MM and PB annuities are no longer equal, average payments but heavily back end loaded and work off a graduated annualized payment.
MM is more back end weighted than PB and carries a 5% annual increase while PB has a 4% increase. FYI, the larger the annual increase the less someone would receive initially.

If MM rolls over...
Look at the sales volumes of the past starting jackpots for your answer. On 10/19 there was $16.3 million in sales and the next jackpot was $13 million, on 11/06, $15.1 million with the same increase, 11/30 was $18.1, again the same increase, and sales were $14.6 on Tuesday with no increase.
Since you're asking us to guess tonight's sales volume, why do you think it will be any higher or lower than with average $12 million jackpots?

Why does the MM JP increase on usamega with no Official results?
I mean on the site it will say what the numbers are from the live drawing...and usualy 2 hours after then will reveal if there was a winner of some sorts. But i've noticed it will already increase the next JP with no news (official) if there was a winner or not. I checked maybe 40 minutes after the numbers were posted and it already had an increased Jackpot and no news if there was a winner (or LOOSER). Just found that kind of odd

Buying More Tickets Does Not Increase Your Odds.
I don't know. I'm terrible at math. I just think its kind of a common sense thing. Two is better than one, three is better than two...so on and so forth. I don't know by how much an extra ticket would increase your odds, and I don't even know where to begin to try to compute that, but it just seems like it would. Even if its a miniscule amount, an increase is an increase. I suppose you'd have to buy thousands of tickets to actually make a dent in the odds....but that still adds to the general th

JMill, That was from the list Increase posted and I had said a 5 or 1 will be in the number. Then I took the list Increase had posted to and deflated it to only include numbers with a 5 and 1 in them .
Congrats Increase!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

$300,000,000 Jackpots
The only thing that affects the average value of the cash value jackpot is the odds. There is no significant difference between having 10 or 15 million players or 20 to 30 million. The chance of 6 rollovers with 10% of combinations covered is 53.1%, vs 51.2% for 3 rollovers with 20% of combinations played. Both scenarios would sell the same number of tickets, so both would result in the same cash jackpot for the next drawing. As a long term average we should expect 1 winner for every 176 or 195
