John, You perfectly right when writing about the to numberous possibilities about sums , particulary with a game that has 70 numbers in its field. So like any lottery game you have to see the best pattern to increase your odds. The $500K increase is an annuity increase, which includes interest gained for the annuity value payed out in 29 payments over 30 years. The cash increase is determined by ticket sales. The only advantage I see to that strategy is that with separate tickets the IRS has no argument about when you decided to share the prize, so oyu each pay taxes on your share. The downside is that you're spending more money without increasing your potential winnings as much as you could. If I was going to spend two or three times as much on tickets I'd want to either increase my chances of winning by 2 or 3 times or increase my potential payout by at least 2 or 3 times.
