Mega Millions Picks
Does Mega Millions allow you to pick some of the numbers yourself and some quickpicks (on one line)? I play in New Jersey and get quick picks all the time but when i play powerball in PA powerball does allow you all the options (Q6, Q5, Q4, Q3, Q2, Q1) that is you can mark some numbers you like on the slip then mark the quick pick option also (let computer select the remaining) for one play I'm not sure whether megamillions in Jersey allows you to do this... NY Lottery says it goofed: Mahopac winner got $31 million after taxes
Here's the actual values, after taxes, for both Powerball and Mega Millions. USA Mega is the originator of the Jackpot Analysis feature, which shows the after-tax value for every state each game is played in. The analysis pages are updated immediately after either of the jackpots change. Mega Millions: http://www.usamega.com/mega-millions-jackpot.htm Powerball: http://www.usamega.com/powerball-jackpot.htm

Curious about PowerBall and Mega Millions
Here in Arizona, there is the Pick 6 (6/44), the Pick 5 (5/35), and the Pick 3 (3/10). I know that the Pick 6 and the Pick 5 are ball driven, not computer generated. And the Pick 6 and Pick 5 have 4 different ball sets, each, with a ball set picked at random at drawing time (I assume, but how exactly are they picked at random?). And are the balls weighed and measured? Do the balls have to met certain specs? I assume that the situation is similiar with the Pick 3, but then again I don't know.

Why do you get more with Mega Millions?
Powerball starts at $15 million and goes up a minimum of $5 million per draw. Mega Millions starts at $12 million. There is no minimum increase. Usually after 2 draws MM is at around $16 - $17 million, while Powerball is at $20 million. Mega Millions reaches around $25 Million on the third draw. Powerball is around $27 million or so. When Powerball reaches a record high (currently $365 million) it will only grow in $25 million increments. Mega Millions has no such limitation.
